Everyone who has ever owned a high-mileage autotrans has had an issue. They don't last forever. It's nothing unique.

Also, I can confirm that the AT ECU works fine, and will not throw a CEL if it is done properly (per the articles I linked above).

Ok, now I won't worry about an ecu for a while... I'm still confused on the pedal situation though. Do I need to get one with the switches or what?

I think the more appropriate question is, "where can I get the pedals from a manual trans S14." Stop stressing over switches. Get the pedal assembly. What you need will be present.

car-part.com - find an S14 - call the yard - order the parts - get back on the road.

Just checked car-part.com and theres only one listing and its for an AT pedal assembly. I can buy every single little nut, bolt, and screw from courtesypart.com for $140 shipped and have to put together a clutch pedal all by myself and it would have the switches. or I can order one already done on ebay with switches for $220 shipped, or one from performance site without switches for $185 shipped..

I just did it the way I thought was best.. bought each and every piece to assemble one, and while I was ordering from them I got the bolts, nuts, washers for transmission and starter. All I lack now is the Transmission, and a flywheel.

The clutch and pedal assemblies have only a two pole switch (the plug you see is for this, look inside, it has two pins for each side of the switch). Sensors provide feedback via changing a voltage signal typically, this is just a on/off switch like the ones you find for your lights in the house.

Things you need to complete a 5 speed swap:

5 Speed lower harness makes life much easier
Trans of course
Driveshaft
Cross Member w/ Mount
Shifter
Lower and upper shift boot (try to find the upper shift boot attachment ring to go with it)
Clutch master and slave cylinders (just go and buy new ones, they are very cheap)
Clutch master cylinder hard line. You can also buy SS braided lines, but the hard line is cleaner and OEM.
You can use the auto ECU with no issues.
Hole Saw and drill bits for the firewall. You are provided a template from the factory
Clutch pedal and brake pedal if you want the OE fit and feel. You can cut the auto brake pedal if you want to go cheap.
Flywheel & clutch of course. You'll also need the flywheel bolts (you can't use the flexplate ones) and the clutch cover bolts.
Clutch fork (if the trans doesn't have it already)
If I remember correctly, the sandwich plate between the trans and the block is different as well as the lower trans brackets that bolt to the block. But it's been awhile, so I could be wrong here.

I think that's all.

That list is correct (and well-done).

Ok. That list was a little more detailed than other lists I've seen. I appreciate the help everyone.

Another question actually, while I'm thinking about it for future reference, if I were to eventually do an engine swap would it previously being an automatic affect anything? Or would it be the same process as a factory manual would be?

You'd want to get a manual engine so the pilot bushing is correct. You could also downgrade to a manual trans radiator (one that doesn't have an auto trans cooler in it).

Ok. I have another question now.. I found a good deal on an ecu (3C, "A18-B92-G00) for $25. Should I buy a readily available s13 trans from a local shop or should I keep searching for a s14 trans? He is asking $130 for the trans.

Ive already bought everything else except a trans.

...but the bushing is simple to change / add.

...which should be mandatory. Better yet, toss the current radiator and replace it with a good three-core aluminum one. I use Champion radiators on all of my builds, and have had good luck with them for years.

Ok. Radiator will have to wait, I'm tapped for cash now. I was finally able to find a transmission and had to drive 2 hours to pick it up. Crank angle sensor is supposed to be on the edge of bellhousing correct? On my trans there isn't one? All the other sensors are there though and he said it came out of a 95 model..
