i have a 89 240sx.my brakes were working fine last week, i have worn pads but they were still working. then my starter died so my car was sitting on my garage since monday night till this morning, when i finally put the new starter in. so i went out for a drive for the first time in almost a week this afternoon and didnt notice anything wrong, then after 40 minutes or so driving i began to feel my braking performance was getting worse and worse. i noticed i could not lock up the wheels (and i have z32 brakes all around). then it got A LOT worse, almost crashed into the car in front of me on a red light. the brake pedal went soft and it felt like the brakes only engaged when it was almost all the way down (when it did, the pedal felt really hard, i stood on it and it was still hardly stopping the car). so i went home and checked my brake fluid, it was extremely low, almost empty.

i believe i have a leak somewhere, or what? i looked for one but did not find anything (the garage floor is completely dry, didnt really actually check the lines).

do i just have a leak? for what other reasons could my brake fluid be so low?

could this problem have anything to do with my worn pads?

any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Peter

You could be leaking fluid from the master cylinder into the brake booster. That would explain why no fuild is seen on the ground.

It is possible that the leak be completely self contained in the brake booster. All the fluid would just collect inside of it. I have not seen this happen, however I remember my brake/chassis instructor in college telling my class about this happening to a car he worked on.

im taking it to a mechanic tomorrow morning. anyways, is there any chance the worn pads are related to this?
