I noticed a month or two ago my car puffed out a little white smoke when I took off from a stop sign. Didn't think much of it as it didn't happen again for a while. Not it does it every time I take off and when I got home from work today it was smoking even at idle. Also, it's making a knocking noise which I would define as "not good". So A) What do you think I'm looking at and B) I need some recommendations on engine parts for the KA24DE because I'm considering doing a full rebuild in light of these recent developments. Pistons, connecting rods, camshafts, head studs, rings, valves and retainers etc. Help. Thanks.

Is it white smoke or bluish white smoke? If it's plain white smoke, it's coolant, which probabally means a bad headgasket. If it's bluish white, then it's probabally oil, and could be any number of things. Depending on where the knocking is coming from you either have bad lifter/aren't getting enough oil, or you have damaged something internally (spun bearing, ect.) Do you have any way to check your oil pressure?

No way to check oil pressure...but the smoke is just white. The knocking/rattling sound gets worse when I let off the throttle. Like when I'm driving you can hear it in the background so to speak but when I let off to shift it gets louder. Also the higher up in RPM's I am the louder it is during closed throttle.
