Welcome to NICO!

I have never heard of this happening. I'm sure one of our techs will chime in soon.

So is your gas gauge working at all?

I found this thread

zer...oblem

But like I said, hang tight and I'm sure a tech will chime in.

Your fuel tank is a saddle type with 2 senders. Its likely that one or both senders are reading erratically. I've only seen this once, and it was on a coupe with a recent shutter valve replacement. Since it was done at a cheapo shop, the mechanic working on it unknowingly bent the crap out of the float on the sender, making it read high. Get to a dealer and have BOTH the fuel senders checked out to make sure they are reading correctly. If thats not an issue, then maybe your instrument cluster will need replacement, since the light isnt coming on, and there could be a circuit issue there.

Both of my sending units were just replaced under warranty. When the tank was empty, it would show 1/2 tank and the light never came on. Yay! Warranty FTW!!

I guess you were relying heavily on the odo per fill-up?!?

Yup. It caught me off guard at first. The first time it happened was when I participated in a NASA HPDE event. On the lunch break, I went and got some gas (didn't fill up) and didn't pay attention to the mileage. Two days later (with it reading half a tank) the car started sputtering and I was like, "WTF?" It eventually died and we pushed it into my garage. I thought it was my fuel pump and I took it out, only to look down into the tank and see that there was hardly any gas. Hahaha. I felt dumb....
