Okay, so I dont literally need help with any effort on the car. I recently aquired a 1990 Coupe with no rust and minimal body damage (3 door dings) for 400 bucks. Its missing some things (Like a motor/trans/driveshaft) and needs some new rear axles. The car is also completely gutted, and I just finished removing the sound deadening. The next step is paint. It'll be custom mixed in Northern VA at my brother in law's sister store (he works for sherman williams and Im getting a killer deal on paint - haven't picked the brand yet). My problem is I dont know what color it will be. I dont really want black because the car doesn't have AC and I'd fry in the summer. I was thinking about a two tone, with it being carbon grey/gunmetal over something...originally I was thinking white. But thats a bit played out. So long story short, help me pick my car color. If you have a picture of the color you are talking about so I can get it mixed to that color it'd be great. If you have it on a 240 its even better. If you have it on a coupe with exactly what you mean.....your friggen awesome. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I want it clean, and not overdone...but something that says I'm a little more than stock...because it'll back up the motor . Oh, and its gonna be riding on some 16x8 xxr 501's in silver w/ machined lip when the slicks are off and the front bumper should be swapped from a pignose to the Chuki(?) front end prior to paint. If not, it'll rock a pignose w/ lip and intercooler Thanks in advance fellow niconians!

I'm a sucker for neutral colors. I would say go with that stark Alpine White they paint Imprezas. If you dig the darker stuff a deep charcoal with some metallic would be cool. Gloss Olive might be something different, Ive seen flat olive and it looks good.

My recently acquired hatch is red, which is my favorite color but I usually don't care for it on cars. Its growing on me. I'm still partial to my old white hatch though, R.I.P.

I thought about white...mainly because I wont have a/c and its a clean color all around. But i'm also leaning towards the 350z blue, the new EvoX blue, or a DEEP blue with a very slight purple hue...Come on tho guys...Any other suggestions??

Well, I think I'm going with the blue off of the 350z blended with the 300zx midnight purple. I want the same or similiar mixture as House of Kolor's "Burple". It'll be mainly the shade of 350z blue, but when you look at it have people ask themselves if the car is blue, or a different shade of purple. If anyone has any ideas let me know, but paint will be bought within the next few days!

Well, I just bought the paint this weekend and will have it sprayed by the end of the month. As far as I know, i'll be the only coupe in the roanoke/bedford/lynchburg area to have the nissan b17 paint...thats right, 350z daytona blue...and the stuff was downright expensive even as an "off" brand...Outside will be daytona blue, and the inside/under hood will be sprayed with a single stage black for durability. I just couldn't see spraying such beautiful paint just to have it walked on and greased up...I'll update with pics once I have em!

Project Update:We just got a hole or two welded up and started to lay primer. Black single stage will be going on first (inside the cabin, under hood, and in trunk), and then by monday night I am looking at having the daytona blue sprayed and cleared! I need to get some pics of the black now that its been sprayed inside, but for now heres a few pics of the progress:Prep work -From left to right: Me (Todd), Chris, and Joey...Joey's the friend you have who thinks he knows everything about everything til he screws it up so you just give him simple jobs so you dont have to do it all...My Wife (who helped and taped up all the windows inside the cabin...along with cleaning and misc. crap.

Primer...Self etching in the engine bay, and high build elsewhere.

Thanks guys...I was planning on getting more pics and getting a few more things done today...BUT, the other day I found out why you have to use a respirator the hard way...So, although Im not hurling out paint anymore...Im not trying to inhale fumes anymore until I know I can...lol. Should be up there tomorrow to put the doors, hood, and trunk on and snap a few pics...Hopefully paint/clear on monday...Wish me luck!

Thanks for the help on paint color now that I already said I bought daytona blue...lol. The bahama blue was pretty, but I still wanted something kind of "stockish". The Z blue will turn enough heads without causing too much attention. If I was putting and RB into it instead of a CA I'd have gone with Bayside Blue (R34), but I couldn't justify it without that. Like I said guys, I hope to have pics up soon...but progress was def. delayed by a few days after puking up a good ammount of inhaled/swallowed paint. So a lesson for you who have never done any bodywork....Use a freaking respirator for paint, and at least a "surgical" mask for body filler.

Well, here are the updated pics with the black sprayed. It IS a gloss black, but because it sat for a few days in a paint shop, theres a bit of dust that already settled on it. The thing I was most excited about was...NO RUNS! Im absolutely thrilled as the single stage paint and the "bumper black" were both thin but heavy...and supposedly pretty simple to run. The rest of the car will be put back together today/tonight, and I'll be looking like a 350z...kinda, by the end of the day tomorrow...wish me luck!

Thanks for looking, and hopefullly I'll get some more pics up here shortly.
