i went out to a parking lot tonight and tried to practice, mostly i did the "power over" thing where you just oversteer and gas it to get the back to slide out. I could never get the front to break traction though, rear would just keep sliding until i left off the gas and then it would line up with the front. Is this just because i wasnt going fast enough? orr..? please, advice!

also, what kind of roads do/did you practice on when you first started? seems i cant go back to that parking lot now(explination later) so i will have to find somwhere else i can practice.

also, heres a funny story about my evening -went to local empty parking lot, and started to put in my silencer so i wouldnt attract as much attention. so i get the thing in, but the screw hole wouldnt line up. and it was stuck in there pretty good so i coudlnt get it back out to line it up because it had gotten too hot to touch from the muffler. so i figure i will just drive around until it blows out in the parking lot. anyway, a cop tells me to leave before the silencer blows out. so i just get out of there, trying to stay at low rpm. anyway i almost get home but then i hear my exhaust note get really loud (crap silencer blew out) and on a highway too. so i loop around and i see it, it looks ok but i will have to see. so i pull over and wait for the road to clear, CLANG truck drives by, ahh crap. it is mangled lol. so i am out a pratice spot and out a silencer. haha

http://www.driftworks.org they have a lot of good information. I practice drifting at work. I am 3rd shift security and I have to drive the lot once a night.

Also did you read the anouncement about the signatures? If not you might want to remove the quizzilla link from your sig.

you know....i bet the noise of screeching tires totally made the silencer useless.you dont really need your front tires to break traction.

if the front tires break traction..

... its called sliding :P you want lots of front traction.. the rear is supposed to swing out, while the front steers the car in a given direction.

it was all gravelly and stuff so the tire noise was less than my exhaust.

I thought that a true drift was all four tires losing traction, and the rear sliding out was just oversteer. I could be wrong though, I'm nowhere near an expert, just what I've heard.

Oh jesus, another drifting thread!

Calling all drift haters, we need negative comments about drifting and/or the 240SX in general here, stat!

When you are learning to drift, try to find an EMPTY parking space or a lot or something. Preferably one with at least one spacious turn, so that you can practice timing your slides. The one that I like the best for learning is the feint drift. Basically you come into the curve hot and hit the brakes kinda hard and quickly steer away from the turn, then quickly back into the turn and get back on the gas. Start countering when you feel the rear end come out.

Some people swear by ebrake or clutch kick initiation, but I tend to stay away from those, although I will admit the clutch kick is pretty easy to start a slide if you are making some power or your rear tires suck (which they probably should).

Everything just takes some getting used to.

Start doing circles and figure 8's if you want to learn to control the car first before technique.

Oh, no. :nono

You had your chance, pal... Now you're the Mayor of Driftgeekville.

Yep, I'm all about the drift scene now, yO.

I might even hold a drift clinic here in Phoenix - Ever seen a 4200-lb 300hp luxury sedan fully crossed up flying across a parking lot? It's a beautiful thing. :D

rofl that sounds awesome.

and yea, i thought a full drift involved loss of traction on all 4 wheels?

Ive been driftin my 240 for almost 2 years, ive learned alot, but especially, dont let the cops know or hear, holy f***, ive been real close, i left a lot one time and saw like 3 squads rollin into the area fastas hell, but anywayz lately ive been comin up to a turn all fast and pinned out in 2nd gear let off the gas and pout in the clutch and let it out while i yank my wheel towards the turn, pretty much deal with it your self from there, practice makes perfect when you practice perfectly....

http://forums.freshalloy.com/u...56222Help a drifting newbie out!

try checking out this thread. what I try that seems to work is finding a parking lot or something, and working on the first gear figure 8's. set them far enough apart to get up a little speed, keep in mind that your in first, try feinting, but I usually end up using the ebrake. go through the figure 8s so you are doing each side as you pass, instead of just one side. do about 3-5 passes, then let your brakes cool, maybe check the scene out and make sure no one's rolling up on you. best places are abandoned warehouse parking lots, or school stadium parking lots.

wait, you want to sell the car, the silencer, or the exhaust? what kind of exhaust do you have, and where do you live that it's a problem? Not really looking, but if I can get one for a steal I might think about it...
