I need new struts for my 91 240. I bought it used recently and while having the tires rotated, noticed the boots are cracked and the struts are leaking.

Of course the shop wants 500.00 for the full job....whatever.

I found the GR-2's for around 190.00. I think they will serve my purpose.

My ? is about the springs. Do I need to replace the springs as well simply because I'm replacing the shocks? OR should I? I'm pretty sure I can do all that myself, but am I going to throw the alignment off to where I and up taking it in....

I'm learning.....help me out please.....

If anyone has any type of medical ?, I would be glad help you out!!!!

no you dont not have to replace the springs, the gr-2 are an exact stock replacment but lowering springs will work fine too if you want some

heres some pros and cons of swapping springs and shocks at the same time:-PRO: labor is the same on the front, since its a strut. you still ahve to take it all apart anyways labor is pretty much the same on the rear, but slightly different because its a shock.-PRO: you'll be done, and have a nice new matched suspension combo for the rest of the cars life.

CON: cost. more parts=more moneyCON: excessive lowering(anything over 1.5") can cause allignment problems, and require a kit to fix it.

those are the big points.-chet

yes, shocks. it is not part of the controlling suspension(IE, does not controll its geometry directly, its only adjusts ride highed and damper things) check this diagram, all it is is a shock with a spring seat.http://courtesyparts.com/image...a.gif

there is a difference between that and a strut. ;)-chet
