New to the forum and new to Infiniti. I have been searching for a car and found one local finally. 2006 M35X... to cut to the point it lacks the Tech Package with the 14 speaker Bose. Ive done searching all night but haven't found the answer I am looking for. Is the 8 speaker Bose crap compared to the 14? I could care less about lane departure warning and laser cruise control but will I really regret the lower end bose system? It does have nav at least. So the car is local, its very clean, and the price is right. Potentially I will spend much more purchasing a car say 400 miles away just to have four more speakers lol. So just interested to hear some input... thanks in advanced.

If your choice of stereo will decide whether or not to purchase the described M, then fellow, you are on the wrong website... :picard:

I can't speak for doc Antz, but obviously you aren't buying the M for just the stereo, although you might be an audiophile and a discerning driver.
I drove a non-tech package M35, but don't remember how good or bad the sound was, I was concentrating on the driving, steering responsiveness, since I'd never driven an Infiniti before.

That being said...I have a 2006 M45 with the Tech and Journey packages, and I think it sounds pretty great, you definitely notice the sound coming from the seat speakers.
There are others who think the system "just Blose" and have modified both the 8 and 14 speaker system to their own specs (changing out the door speakers, adding an additional amp + sub, etc.)

Although, I remember reading some threads a while back that stated that you needed a DVD-Audio disk to fully appreciate the surround sound and complete sound stage that 14 speakers gives you.

I also remember seeing a little device that you plug in between your mp3 player and the aux input that allows you to manipulate the sound stage for about $200, can't for the life of me remember what it's called--getting old sux!

and ummm (14 - 8 = 6)...lol

Could you go to a local infiniti dealer and test drive/listen to some Ms that don't have the tech package real quick?
or is the car you're looking at such a great deal and so hard to come by, you have to jump on it quick?

gl with the hunt, let us know what you ended up getting.

The 14 speaker sound system is the reason I went with another M versus an FX. It may not be for everyone, but for me I cannot understand why all cars don't have surround sound! And DTS decoding! Now pardon me while I hop in my M & blast NERO :)

It's a good question. The car has an excellent sound system (of course there are cars with better stock systems, but whatever). It's definitely one of the best in the price range, if not the best.

I agree that you'll need to DVD audio to appreciate the extra speakers. They don't put out a ton of volume, and don't seem to play at all through my iPod, only CDs. (Maybe mine are broken?)

ohhh well. I went ahead and bought the car. I figure I can upgrade the factory setup a little bit with the money I saved buying local. I do love the car though. Feels like a limo after driving an A4.

Aha! You bought the machine regardless-it wasn't the stereo that was the deciding factor-glad I had a hand in helping you figure it out. Sometimes, you just have to bluntly rephrase/exaggerate a bit what someone thinks so that they may see more easily the irrationality of their thinking.

As pedsmedoc stated, a music system is to the ear of the beholder. You can afford the machine, you can afford the system you find pleasing. Enjoy the wheels!!

welll now that I've had the car a few days I can truly say I love it. The sound system for me is sufficient, a couple hundred bucks will make it great. Now just gotta make it look better on the outside...

CONGRATS!!! They truly are great cars. What color combo did you get?

Funny you mention the A4 thing because my boss was scratching his head why I didn't buy a "BMW or Audi" instead. I took him for a ride in my car and he quickly understood.

I, too, have found myself drawn to the red - after owning two black M's. The black looks sweet but I've had black/white/grey cars lately & sometimes think it'd be nice to have some color....

Congrats on your M. I bought mine three years ago from an 88 year old guy and wouldn't trade it even for a new M. Just love it.

The 14 speaker system comes with a DVD player in the console and the 14 speakers only makes a difference when playing DVD's. It requires 5+1 channels to get all speakers pumping. Any video DVD will work (you don't need an "audio" DVD). My system is bone stock and if I crank it up with a concert DVD, the inside mirror blurrs from the vibration and I can't hear any distortion. If I didn't have to watch the road wile driving, and my eyes were closed, I would swear I was at the concert.

So my car has 111,000 miles on it. It visually is flawless, especially considering the miles. Question is should I be doing anything specific around this mile mark or in the near future? The carfax had a lot of previous maintenance records so I feel that it had been properly maintained over its life time. The high miles don't scare me at all... especially after owning BMWs

See if you can get a printout of the service history (or at least have them verbally confirm it was kept up at each interval in the service manual). If not, personally I would give attention to the major wear items that need replacing at 100k miles on any car: belts, coolant, radiator cap, thermostat, trans fluid, spark plugs. But then again, I am OBSESSIVE about maintenance. I would rather waste a weekend replacing perfectly good coolant & feel confident about it, than "let it ride". That's just my personality type.
