I have to do a research paper, product and presentation for this "senior exit" at my school. So anyone have any automotive ideas i could use as a topic? I have no idea what i want to do, but something automotive. I have to write a long *** paper and create something whether it's a posterboard w/ what i did and then talk to a panel about it. If i don't pass i don't graduate. Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

Product? Exactly what do you mean by that?

If you're looking for something automotive, why not do something on the history of the Wankel rotary engine, it's impact on the automotive industry past, present and future. You would, of course, have to explain the Otto Cycle and the conventional combustion engine, and how a rotary engine differs from that.

You could have all kinds of neat engine diagrams, some pictures of sweet RX-7's, the new RX-8, some dyno charts, etc.

At any rate, it'll be fun to say "Wankel" over and over again in class. ;)

Wankel.... hahaHow long should it be? You could just do a history of the car engine and how it has changed. The book "Driving Force" is a good source.

Are you asking how long a Wankel should be? That's sort of a personal thing. :D

I know that when I'd write papers, I'd almost always start out with an idea that was too broad. If the history of the internal combustion engine could fill a book, it's probably too broad for a research paper.

I do agree that it would help to know how long this paper needs to be.

Another cool idea would be the history of the Z car. There was a really cool History Channel program about that. It was interesting to see not only the changes in the car (due to safety and emissions legislation as well as changes in the perceived public tastes) but how Datsun/Nissan reacted to competitors and vice versa.

Hehe....I said Wankel again.

An average Wankel is about 9 to 10 in size

a friend of mine asked me the same question a couple weeks ago, and we came up with the idea of making a case for more strict laws for beginner drivers. He did a bunch of research invloving crash statistics and insurance rates, etc, etc, and showed how 16 year olds are still too immature to be driving a car with full privalages etc... made a pretty good paper, with all the research about the cause and then a suggestion in the end based on his readings. think about it.

I honestly think fiznat's idea would make the best presentation and would be good for a paper cuz ur teacher will prolly like it even tho all ur classmates r gunna be like "i cant believe he is on that side of the topic" (especailly since im guessing u drive and got ur license as soon as possible. Although whateva u do dont make it so good on that topic thats someone can argue a case for it in like a court or sumthin ;) :D .

Thanks for the ideas. I thought about the rotarty engine but i have to prove something. paper will be roughly 10 pages long. The teen driving thing is a pretty good idea i'll think about that cause i have to take a point of view on a topic. Thanks.
