What is the proven effective way to get all the air out of the engine cooling system? I have been told open the bleeder valve and fill then run the car with heater at full blast until all the air comes out (with car flat on ground). I have been told to raise the front up so the water will get to back in the heater core where air pockets love to live. Once you fill turn on and run with heater full blast until no more air bubbles. I want to stop the swishing noise and higher temps guys. Please weigh in.

1. Fill the system as much as you can.
2. Start car
3. Without letting it warm up open the Rad cap
4. turn heater to full blast
5. add coolant as needed
6. squeeze upper rad hose continuously (you should see bubbles coming out of rad)
7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 till no more air comes out and no more coolant goes in.
8. close rad cap, turn off heater, go for a drive.

Does your heater kick on as soon as you turn on? Because mine does not. Is that normal?

Its been so long since my car drove normally I couldn't tell you whats normal and whats not, sorry man. But the procedure I posted is a general procedure for burping any coolant system that doesn't gravity feed itself.

If you have the automatic climate control, I believe it waits until the engine is up to temperature before trying to pump hot air in. That's how mine seems to work anyways.

the heater doesn't turn on until the car warms up, even if you turn it on.

Another thing you may want to try next time is to fill the block from the hose that comes off the top water pipe. Disconnect the clamp from the radiator and turn that hose upward so you can fill it like a funnel. That way you don't have to wait for the coolant to go through the radiator and into the block, it goes straight to the block. That should help solve some of the air problems. Then once it's filled, reconnect that hose and continue to fill from the radiator cap. Unfortunately you won't be able to do that this time since it's already filled... but now you have a heads up for the next time!

^ That's what I have to do to the Subaru every time, the boxer doesn't gravity flow so it has to be burped. I was gonna mention it but I figured you already had coolant in there.
