I have a 1993 240sx and I am turboing it...DUH... I already have a spare motor that I took apart and the block has been hot tanked and I am about to start buying parts. I need help deciding what to do, I am not sure how much power I want and this wont be used for very much racing...maybe alittle auto-x and drag here and there but other than that its going to be purely for my enjoyment. At first I was thinking a complete rebuild with forged internals and all that good stuff until I recently saw a post by fiznat I think saying that doing that would put the complete built at around9-10k....I dun have that much money! I have about 3k to play with right now so I was thinking use the pistons and rods that were in the motor when I got it if they are still in good shape (only 100k miles on it and only problem was a little smoking) and get new valvetrain parts if that is worh the money. Basically I am looking to get as much power as possible without getting into the 9k range so I was thinking build with stock block and use forged if I get to the point where I need it.... I know this sounds like what all the "stupid kids with 240s" say but I am serious about this and I am doing the build myself. Just looking for opinions.. I am wanting to go with a T3/T4 turbo and BikiRom, I know that much..the other parts I havent decided 100% on yet and if anyone has any opinions on where to get other parts I will need feel free to say something. I have been an acrive member of this board for a pretty long time and my car would not run as good as it does (which isnt that great) without NICO so I know you guys wont let me down.

Thanks for all the help and I know throughout this build there will be many questions...just hope all you KA-T guys dont give up on me...I cant wait to be a part of the boosted community!

3k is not going to be enough to cover turbo parts and engine rebuild. If your budget is set at 3k I would just do a stock rebuild. You are going to need at least 2k to get all the parts for the turbo and that is not much. You could also keep an eye on NICO classifieds for somebody selling a good used or rebuilt motor.

Budget is not really "set" at 3k..that is just all the money I have right now. This will be done over time so I am sure I will have more to play with. Thats why I was just thinking stock rebuild with what I have right now with new seals, rings, gaskets, etc. and go from there. I know all the turbo parts arent going to be brand new. I definately don't want to be cheap and cut corners...I am going to be spending too much money to have something screw up because I didnt want to spend a little extra money, but I do want to stay on the inexpensive side.. I don't like the word cheap as it has to do with quality. I want good quality at an inexpensive price..yeah, thats what I'm trying to say. Now..time to browse the classifieds...

I built my whole car for less than 4k. If you search around and find deals or used items and do the work yourself the turbo parts shouldn't cost more than $500. the stuff thats going to cost you is the electronics. thats an easy $1000. mis. stuff $500( fuel pump, hose fittings if you change to earls, regulator) If you buy all new then for sure your going to take it up the a$$.

id probably run stock block at first, then save up and get a second block to do some things to, when that inevitable power hunger comes along

Or just use the one that is in my car now.. ..I have this whole using 2 motor things planned out. I think that is what I am going to do though..stock rebild, then when...not IF...WHEN.. I get the urge for insane numbers and excessive assplanting-in-seat power I will use the block that is in the car now to do the mega build....that will also be when I have more money obviously!

In the long run for me it is going to be a little more expensive because of buying all new gaskets and stuff twice...but it will be worth it to be boosting until I can get the money to go all out. I'm not going to be the typical 18 year old and say I am poor..I'm not..I have some money...but I am by no means rich..I get by and can afford a little more. Just not all this at one time..

$100 turbo from a wrecker. $100 for intercooler pipe. $200 for intercooler. what else do you need???? He is only running a stock engine for now so You don't need a big turbo.

Ok...where would be the best place to get all the seals/rings/gaskets/all the other little **** I will need for this build? I am ready for this thing to get started..I cant wait to finally have a half way quick car..lol..My motor now has so many little problems. Any help on finding any parts for a stock rebuild would be great.

Thanks, Mav
