Well i've got $1,700 left before my 97 240 is paid off and I will be saving for an s14 sr20det that I can hopefully put it in the spring. I'm kind of a newbie mechanic, I mean I know how an engine works I just havn't done all that much work on cars. I did all the work to the prelude myself, like I/H/E and some suspension work.

I want to do the engine swap myself, just to save $ and also to gain the experience. So far I've researched sites like sr20swap and several others, but if there are any other good place to look please help me out. I would like to fell confident about doing everything myself but I still feel like there is more to learn.

Any reason why you can't learn what you need to know here?

There's a concept - I mean, we DO have more SR experts than anywhere else. It's just a matter of reading old threads and asking the right questions..

Hook 'im up, mates!

If you live in the US, the 97 240sx is an OBD-II car. As soon as the mechanic goes to plug in his OBD-II handheld, the ecu is not going to match your car and you'll fail.

That's not to say that you can't pay someone off, but its just something to keep in mind.

That's why I got a 95, (pre OBD-II, oh yeah)...

I have done the sr20det swap into a 1995 240sx. It was pretty simple, although the wiring harness conversion documention you'll find online isn't exactly correct.

The cruise control assembly won't work. The a/c high pressure line will not reach, (you'll have to use the KA pump with the SR wheel). You'll have to go FMIC, (the stock SMIC won't fit), there goes your wind-shield washer fluid reservoir and front bumper supports. Also, the EGT plug on the turbo outlet pipe will not clear the steering column, unless its relocated. You'll have to buy a smaller battery and turn it sideways, or get a trunk-mount setup, (god that's so redneck). You will need an upgraded fuel pump to push the fuel that the turbo needs. If you keep the stock radiator, you'll have to pick up some custom hoses from autozone or pepboys to reroute it. And I think I had to use the KA temp sensor, because I'm still using the KA gauge cluster.

Everything else seemed to bolt right up including the KA power steering and MAF sensor.

Also, I paid a certified mechanic to do the job, (and he did a very nice one at that, looks completely stock), and it took him 3 weeks to get it all finished, including FMIC / new clutch / and walbro fuel pump installation, and also a custom fab'ed CC assembly. THATS RIGHT, I HAVE CC on my s14 with SR20DET redtop!!
