Hello to all. So my car has gotten a really bad whining noise, that I do not know if is the power steering or something inside the engine making the noise. It winds louder when I accelerate and when I turn the steering wheel all the way to the bump stops the whine stops. Here is the video. Let me know what you think it could be. Thanks.

I will do a fluid change on the power steering system soon, also the water pump I replaced it like a year+ ago (autozone), I shall check on that. Chain rattle, I will soon take out a tooth from it, for what I heard is not needed. The belts are in good condition. Don't you think when. I turn to steering wheel to the bump stops the water pump would continue to make the noise?

no they are separate systems but just threw it in there to make sure. Most likely it is power steering either the pump or rack. Is the reservoir full?

Yea up to the top. Once in a while it goes down a bit, but always checking. The steering system feels normal, not heavy or nothing. I think maybe is because of the fluid, is a little dirty.

well if the reservoir is less than full after a while then there is probably a small leak letting air in the system which could cause that noise.

My S14 was making that exact same noise recently and I put some new fluid in it. Cost me like 20 bucks for the fluid but thats it.... A week later my mom brought her Audi TT to a shop because it was making the exact same noise and they were gonna charge her 2,000 dollars for a new rack, but she had the fluid changed instead and it fixed the problem and they still charged her like 350 dollars.....

If it is a leak however, that would need to be fixed because like syrus33 said its letting air into the system and causing that noise no matter the condition of the fluid.

Thanks for the input. There seems to be a small leak, so I will have to check where exactly. I already got my transmission fluid for the change. So I hope that fixes the problem.

clean up all power steering components and then drive and check for the leak. once fixed the noise should go away.

Bump. New problem, So I change the PS pump and the noise still continued, when I turn all the way to the stopper and leave it there the noise stops. So could it be the rack and pinion? or what else could it be? I don't want to waste more money :( Please Help. Thanks.

Update!!! So after I got my rack and pinion rebuilt the noise did not go away and my steering still felt hard. So I poked around and found out what was causing that noise and the hard steering. It was the suction hose that I had cut and put on a while back, which over time it kinked a little and was not allowing the liquid to flow freely from the reservoir. So I went ahead and ordered the OEM Suction Hose (Part #49717-70F0) and that fixed both my problems. I kind of feel dumb for this little thing, but the good thing is that I have the PS pump, Rack and Pinion and Suction new. Anyways I hope this helps someone in the future.
