So I've got my friends QX4 and I'm working on this problem she has with the morning sickness (not upshifting past 2nd until warmed up). I decided to remove the control valve assembly to see what I could see. On the way to accomplish this I removed the filter and as it was coming off something was rattling inside. As I tilted it over 3 washers (maybe shims) came out, from the suction side. One is copper and two are some other metal, all the same size. They are 1" in diameter with a 1/2" hole in the center. The copper one is about half as thick as the other 2. They all look like they had been worn from rubbing or being ground by something and 1 of them was visibly chewed up. As I removed the control valve there was still some fluid on top and as I tipped it over I heard a clink in my storage pan. I fished around there and pulled out what was left of another copper washer, about 1/4 of it was left.
This transmission was rebuilt about 10K miles ago and no I don't know if there is still a warranty on it. It was diagnosed by a repair shop and sent to another town for the rebuild. The guy who ran the shop probably won't take ownership of the problem since the service was performed over 2 years ago now.
Anyone know what I got with these spacers/shims???
Also the accumulators with the springs are interesting. The B accumulator is aluminum while the C and D ones are plastic. Does it make sense that the plastic ones are replacements and the aluminum one is original? AT-295 in the service manual says that the aluminum B accumulator is responsible for the 2nd to 3rd shift. It was harder to get out than the other 2.
Thanks for any help you folks can give.
