I had a 96 Galant S, mine was a rarity in that it had a 5 speed in it from the factory, I totaled it on the PA Turnpike, slammed into a wrecked vehicle dead in the B pillar doing 65 mph (it was dark and I didn't see the car until I hit it) and I walked away with minor bruising. I'm 6'1 so I likes my room.

The 6G Galants come with the 4G64 (basically the same engine as the chrysler 420A) and the 7G came with the 4G64 or 6G72 (same engine found in the 3000GT). If you get a 6G you can either drop in the 4G63 or you can make a hybrid by just swapping in the head which will give you more power and allow you to boost. As I said they share the same chassis with the Eclipse so whatever suspension and brake mods that are out there for the Eclipse will work on the Galant.

I bought mine for $1200 and it only had 68K on the clock.
We are actually going to look at a galant vr-4 today after i get off work.

Good idea on the Galant and Diamante. 90s Mitsu sedans were good cars, and the recent decline in overall quality and reputation means the resale value on old models is in the toilet.

The VR-4 is a smaller model than the 6g and 7G Galants were, but it makes up for that with the same engine, trans, and AWD system found in the EVO1-3, while the suspension and brakes are off of the old 1G Eclipses, so the aftermarket support is phenomenal, the parts are relatively cheap and you can't beat having a car that can carry the wife and kids while blistering through a Rally Cross stage. There are a few of them out there that will put most anything that they come acorss to shame on the 1/4 mile too. They are DSM at it's best, having been produced at the same time as the old Starions and Conquests and the 4G63's didn't have that nasty crankwalk issue.

Buy it! Those cars are so cool. What year is it? Unless I'm mistaken, the 1st gen had the same motor/awd system as the eclipse gsx, the second had a 2L turbo v6, and then the third had a TT 2.5L v6. So cool!

the "real" Galant VR-4 was only made 2 years. Very limited production. I want to say in the range of 3000 ever produced here. My buddy has #514 of which year I cannot recall.

And I dont think that its the same drivetrain as the EVO 1-3. The GSX is on the same drivetrain as a Chrystler Town and Country minivan. The diffs in the JDM cars were different internally and different axles as well, but they we swapable. And the cyclone motor isnt a direct bolt-in for the 1G DSM's if I remember correctly. I am a Nissan converted former DSM guy, but I could be incorrect

WOW. How have you not endured any dashboard cracks? Does the factory radio still work? I went through those like candy until I finally gave up and got an aftermarket head unit.

This one of the reasons I got it too, it has like 1 or 2 tiny cracks, but nothing too serious, just the leather seats kind of cracked. But everything works really good on this car, I did a complete tune up to it, new everything.

What do you want for it?

God, I shouldn't even ask. One man + 4 cars = madness.

So he picked up the galant! The body is alright, interior is great runs perfect and has no issues. Its a 91, number 8XX out of 2000 (they come with a plate clearly stating this lol) got it for 1800 bucks too, not a bad price IMO.

That is fantastic, I love the old DSM stuff! I actually had an opportunity to buy a Galant VR4 over the summer. I decided against it though; the guy said it either had a blown head gasket or the oil seals on the turbo had gone bad, he wanted a little too much for it, and I didn't want to throw a lot of cash into something that on which I didn't have any concrete info. So I instead bought a $200 S13

Tell your friend to restore it, add some mild bolt-ons and keep the mileage low and maintenance up to spec and in a year or 2 he'll get 2 -3 times what he paid for it by a collector or fan.
