Okay i bought a 92 240sx for $900 dollars...the car is in awesome shape for its age and is a steal at the price i paid. Problem is, sometimes the car wont start, but if i wait a while, it will start. Its like the car only starts when it wants. Also, yesterday i got the car started and took it for a drive, while the car is running it runs strong and really smooth. But when i was coming home the car began to sputter and miss and i tried to keep the revs up to keep moving but it just wouldnt rev up. Long story short, the car died, i pushed it off the road, tried to start it again and it acted like the battery was dead, I turned the key and then it just clicked once. then my friend tried to give me a jump, and it still wouldnt start . But today i went up and tried to jump it one last time before i called a tow and the car started up fine. I drove it home and it ran perfect. What could cause problems like these? All help will be greatly appreciated. This really has me stumped. Thanks guys

i think yu have 2 different problems. a misfiring condition wont cause a no crank / no start condition.

my mazda was jus giving me some wierd symptoms. at about 105mph the engine would shut off... now im not saying the speed govoner, im saying i had no throttle responce and i would have to pull over to the side of the road and wait. wait for what, u might ask. one of the coils in my distributor went bad, when it got real hot it would move the wire and cause an open or short in the system. teh only way i was able to find this out was to wait for it to completely go bad. it is very hard if not imposable to diagnose a problem if the problem is not there. wait for the car to act up then look to see if you have spark to your wires and such. or jus give me a call and ill come pick it up off ur hands for bout $350

I to think you have 2 different problems missfire and a sounds like your starter may be the second problem.

Alright guys my alternator fuse was blown. This explains why the car died on me but not why sometimes it wont start.

take your battery out and take it to autozone have em charge it and test it..if its good remove the starter have em test it if it good.. check your wiring wire brush all the connections and if still no go.,.. take a continuity tester to the wires to make sure there is a complete circuit.. if you havent found the problem by them talk to me lol

When the car doesn't start does it crank, or just make a clicking sound?

edit: if it cranks is it strong or weak?
