I don't have anything on decoding japanese VINs. I have decoding for Europe models, Aussie models, and US models only. The Euro models use a 16 digit code for the late 80s models, and the aussie and US models both use standardized 17 digit codes. The only j-spec service manual I have is for the motor only, it doesn't have the GI section that would have VIN decoding.

EDIT: My S14 Euro FSM has an Except Europe, Australia, and New Zealand VIN. It's 12 digits, though.

GBAS14-XXXXXX

G: Body Type G = CoupeB: Engine type B = SR20DETA: Axle A= 2 wheel driveS14 = ModelXXXXXX = six digit serial number.

My CA manual has an Except for Europe as well. It's 11 digits

R_S13-000001

R: Fastback_: Shown as a blank box in my manual. CA18DETS13: Model000001: six digit serial number.

Hope that helps!

DOUBLE EDIT:My R32 GT-R manual has the VIN listed as being chassis code - 6 Digit Serial. In the GTR's case: BNR32-XXXXXX. And on further google searching, your code should be identical in setup. All of the information regarding specific information that would be in a typical US VIN needs to be pulled from FAST from the serial number.

If you have a Silvia Q, your vin shouldn't start with ps13, as that's a K vin.

K only appears in the first part of the VIN if the vehicle was equipped with super HICAS, and that's easy to check for in the rear... even if it has been removed.

he means k as in silvia k's for turbo. The P in the beginning means sr20det.

that makes no sense. if the 'p' denotes an sr20det, why would they be redundant and add 'k' to denote 'turbo'? there is no 'k' because it's not hicas equipped laki dattebayo said. had it been a 180sx, there would be an 'r' before the 'p'.

No, the PS means SR20, S means CA18.

K's, Q's, and J's is a flank badging, not a VIN entry.

Okay...In order, this is how it goes for VIN:K is first, if you have HICAS

R is for Hatchback and is next, or first if you do not have HICAS

P is for the SR20DET motor option, and will be first if your model is a non-HICAS coupe (HICAS coupe available in Japan only)

S is the model ID, if this appears as the first letter in the VIN, your vehicle is a CA18DET equipped non-HICAS coupe ONLY

13 is the chassis code

The rest are for serial ID only.

You can decode the MODEL code for specific options, but I don't know that information. The MODEL code is located directly underneath the VIN code.

Hope that helps, and Jesus Christ, you could have searched all that up. It's not altogether hard to find that info. Yeesh.
