So... I was looking at a CA18det swap into my 95 240SX, until...
I started looking at the RB20det in more detail, and while it's not a 25 or 26, it seems good. Both the CA and RB seem pretty good honestly, so I guess I need to decide on what I want. Done more research on the CA swap and it's easier to perform, but all I'd really need is the r32 crossmember for the RB, and maybe a downpipe. Clutch system, driveshaft, and wiring would need to be done for both.
Osaka sells an RB20 + trans for about 1300 including shipping, and sunrise sells a CA + trans for about 1400 including shipping.

Trying to stay under or as close to $2000 as I can, excluding labor since I'll be doing everything myself, including a rebuild, water pump, and oil pump. Would probably leave me with a stock engine, or barely modified one either way, but at least after the rebuild/replacement parts, I'd have a pretty reliable one. And that's what's got me leaning towards the RB - I'll probably have a stock engine in either case, and the stock RB > stock CA.I'll have money at a later date to put towards it, but atm on a budget, want the car to go, but really hate the KA.

And the reason I'm doing the swap is because I currently have a KA24DE that my brother destroyed, and an automatic trans, both of which I dislike. It will be a DD, though I don't have to drive to work now, I'll probably end up driving it to work when I get work somewhere else. This won't be my first swap, but it will be my first putting a non-stock engine into a vehicle, so I expect it to be a little harder either way.

I would personally do a rb swap to a s14 if it was a s13 ca would b a nice swap.
S14 is just a bigger body car than s13 obviously but I do not know weight diffrence.

I would never, ever use the RB20. Same weight as the RB25, less power potential than the SR20. I would stick with a 4-cyl if you aren't ready to do at least an RB25. You get all the weight of the RB25 with next to none of the benefits.

If you HAVE to choose between the CA18 and the RB20, I would go CA, to be completely honest.

The RB drivetrain weighs 180lbs more than the KA24DE drivetrain (FWIW).

Eh, yeah. Weight sucks. Plus with the money I don't spend on the crossmember and downpipe I can spend on a bigger t25 or t28turbo and intercooler for the CA, and end up at at least the same place power-wise. Be easier to do maintenance because the RB takes up a lot of space, and having to cross reference parts from multitudes of other places for maintenance would be annoying. Less to do to get it in the car too. :o

As a person who has a CA, I'd suggest getting the CA. Parts wise, the CA is much easier to get parts than the RB and you have more potention mods wise (IMO). For the intercooler setup, all you have to do is get an SR20 kit and modify it a little bit. Also if you need stuff like belts and other misc things all you have to do is say you have a Nissan Pulsar with a CA18DE, simple as that. I've never seen a CA S14 so yours would be a first.

Also you should read up the CA18DET section on the forums, it has a real good in-depth guide on how to build your CA to get a good amount of HP. I suggest reading it before you decide to get a CA.

Yeah. Read up on all that. I know of at least one CA S14 - the guy named Float 6969 on the forums here. Wouldn't be THE first, but around Texarkana, I'm sure it would be lol
Honestly, the main thing I'm going for I guess would be cost efficiency. Most of what I've heard about the RB20, that is definitely not it.
I've downloaded the FSM's for the wiring diagrams as well, so all I need is time to study those as I rip everything apart, unless someone's got an easier, picture filled, idiot friendly CA-S14 swap walk through for the wiring.
