Hello again niconauts. Well in the market for a gaming laptop price range up to $1300.
So far I looked into these laptops:
Asus G73JH
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Lapt ... 94&st=ASUS G73JH A1&cp=1&lp=1

Alienware M11x and M15x
http://www.alienware.com/Landings/laptops.aspx?~ck=anav

Toshiba Qosmio X500 Series
http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops ... ble-models#

Also was wondering if anybody had one of these laptops and what other ones can you guy recommend me. Thanks.

I've got a couple of friends that sport M11s...one pretty base model, one top notch everything. They both love them.

Isn't having a gaming laptop kind of like saying you want a racing moped?

I did.

My thread about an app isn't electronics / computers, it was an app. If the thread was about the iPhone then I would agree.

He said that because using a laptop to game isn't the best way to game. You have higher prices and lower performance than a PC because of the compact form. So it would be like having a fast moped (laptop) and racing (gaming) with it. To get it to be on par with a racing (gaming) car (PC) it will cost you much more and it still won't be as fast.

But I think gaming laptops have a market and I can understand why some one would want one.

Ohhh I see. Well the only things is that a gaming laptop have the grapic cards and other little more things, plus I could take it anywhere I go and I know that a Gaming Desktop would work are much better because they are bigger and can process faster. But I want something portable.

B) People post here instead of there

You're spot on about the place of gaming laptops. There is certainly a place for them out there (otherwise, why make them). I wouldn't try to run Crysis with with everything running, but a decent rig should be enough for a casual gamer. I'd pick one up just to run a handful of the old PCgames that I still place. Then consider something like Torchlight that has a "netbook mode", it's built with the premise that it might be played on a laptop/netbook. As consumers continue to trend towards smaller (and consequently lower powered) devices developers will trend towards games to run on them.

Hardware and shopping advise is easy. My issue is a troubleshooting type question, which is more complicated and even then I am surprised no one has answered in 10 views; by now I expected MoD to have responded. It isn't as active a section as GC but it is checked and responded to when people post there.

Either way the OP posted on GC because he wasn't aware it existed; can't hate one him too much even though he has over 1000 posts. I'll take his word for it.

I understand. I would go with the ASUS based on the links provided with out doing any special research on my own.

But please remember, games are constantly become more difficult to run and having hardware that you can replace to keep up is a HUGE advantage. In 2 years will you be able to play those games at the same details that you feel are acceptable now? With a PC you can always buy a new $300 graphics card, but with the $1,300 laptop it seems like your stuck with HD 5870 graphics card.

Side notes:
The 6xxx series of cards have recently been released on the market so gaming laptops will probably be getting them.
USB 3.0 is becoming the industry standard soon, this gaming laptop has USB 2.0. Does that bother you?
Battery life on the Asus is 2.7 hrs. This means you will probably need to carry the charger where you do. Will this affect your abillity to "take it anywhere I go"?

I'm rocking the M17x and love it. Of course I'm biased, but the Alienware is my choice. It performs well and the build quality is top notch. The best part is that unlike most laptops where the case is plastic, the Alienware laptop cases are actually made of like 1/8 inch aluminum so they are very sturdy.

I see what u mean and I was looking into it and the new model of the asus came out which does has the 3.0 USB and is much better thant the last model and i know that the desktops are easier to put new things on it than the laptop. Alienware is cool but the M17x is a litte to off my price range, even tho is the best out there. I will be doing a little more research.

BTW: I FINALLY REACH THE 1000 POST MARK YAY Even tho I been in this site for 4+ Years.

I would never buy a gaming laptop. Why not just build your own tower? Much more cost effective in the long run, and are you REALLY going to play "full" computer games on the run all the time?

I've seen all those in person, and they're ridiculously big. They're heavy, bulky, and will be outdated within a year, as with any kind of laptop.

I'd rather carry around a desktop tower than those things. They're anything but portable.

Personally, I would go with the Asus laptop. It's been proven to be one of the most powerful laptops on the market, and in some cases, even becoming Desktop Replacement quality. Plus, Asus has one of the better warranties on the market and will cover almost any damage done to the machine short of dropping it off a building. I'm basing my decision on owning several Asus motherboards over the past 5 years or so. I've yet to see their products not stand up after years of use. Also, I'm not sure if the promotion is still going on, but TigerDirect.com was actually selling the Asus laptop for around $1450 at the beginning of December.

*EDIT* I tried to find a review for you on Tom's Hardware but the only one I could find was for the G71, and that model is so far behind the G73 in terms of raw power that it wouldn't even be relevant to compare the two. I hope you find the gaming laptop you're looking for.

Welll Thats is true, but you see I not only need the laptop for gaming. I needed for school and other programs. I don't think bringing a big a** tower with me all the time is cool, but i'm still in the research for a laptop. Maybe I will build a tower so I can modified after I buy my laptop. but for now im trying to find the best laptop. But I want one that I can make payments with no interestest, any website that you guys know about that has this type of programs?

Most people I know who forked over the cash for a gaming laptop for reasons of portability have kept it on their desk for years.

I have an Asus N80vn-x5 and I love it. It has an Nvidia GeForce GT 9650m 1GB VRAM, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, 4GB RAM, came with 64-bit Vista, but I put 7 on it. I've never had any problem with it playing any of my games. I played modern warfare 2 with moderate settings without a problem. So naturally, I'm going to tell you to get an Asus. I wouldn't get one from Best Buy, go to newegg.com and/or tigerdirect.com and look. They have way bigger variety and it willl be cheaper. I think mine was a little over $1,000 from newegg. I had to pay tax for some reason-TN residents have to pay tax there. I've always been curious about the Toshiba Qosmio series. They look really good on paper.

Qosimo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834214050 - bigger screen, smaller hard drive, more vram
~4 gigs of DDR3
~500GB 7200rpm hard drive
~Intel Core i5 2.53GHz
~18.4" screen
~NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M w/ 1.5 GB of dedicated vram
~wireless-n
~HDMI.
~Also the CPU has Intels Turbo Boost Technology which will bump the processor up to 2.8GHz.

Alot of features for $1,079. Sick laptop if you ask me.

Asus - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834220890 - Smaller screen, bigger hard drive, & LED screen
~4GB of DDR3 RAM
~Intel Core i5 2.4GHz
~14" screen
~NVIDIA GeForce 310M w/ 1 GB of dedicated vram
~HDMI
~640GB 5400rpm hard drive
~LED backlit screen

My Asus has an LED backlit screen and when I compare it to my moms normal LCD screen, it's so much more vibrant and bright. Very nice screens. $1,139

With $1,300 you can get a pretty sick gaming laptop. These two are just two quick ones I seen and thought you might like. Asus is a VERY well-known reputable brand in the computer market, so you can't go wrong with getting one. They are pretty well made too I think. I've had mine for a few years now and still works just like day one. Only problem I had was the solder joints in the power cord, the end that plugs into the laptop, came loose and my charger quit working, but nothing a few drops of solder can't fix.

If you have any questions dude, send me a PM and I'll help you out the best I can. Good luck man!

DO NOT GET THE TOSHIBA QOSMIO.

it's a $1600 piece of crap.

BF got it for serious gaming, its pretty and all BUT

screen bubbled from heat, he sent it back, they sent him a new one, screen bubbled again. WTF kind of craftsmanship is that?

PLUS it blue screened like crazy for no apparent reason...also think heat issues.

customer service was no help, he even bought the extended warranty and customer service told him the warranty didnt cover the bubbled screen, which happened < 2 weeks after purchase. Gotta be kidding me.

Let me know what you find, looking for a replacement that DOESNT suck.

Well at least I know what not to get now. I'm leaning more into the Asus. I been reading a lot of good reviews in the new model. Now I have to find a website that will finance me with no interestes for atleast 6 months.
BTW: Toshiba is only good for little stuff, not gaming.

Good call! I haven't heard anything good or bad about them. That's crazy tho. Def go with the Asus bro. Way better brand.

ddr3 sodimms are really cheap right now. 8gb for $75 on sale.

don't listen to the people saying it will be outdated in a year. I had a gaming system with an fx3700 in it that played everything at WUXGA resolution just fine. the fx3700 is based off the "archaic" 9800gtx.

I was really considering the Asus with the 5870 for a long time.

what really swayed me towards a desktop was that my previous gaming laptop only took a trip out to play games once, and that was just to show off. I ended up building a wicked tower and picking up an ultra-portable laptop for the price that I would have paid for the laptop.

I will say that my old gaming laptop was not bulking by itself. it was 9lbs and 17". I got used to that. the problem was the 230w power brick that weighed another 2lbs!.o

The fact is you will NEVER find a laptop where this won't hold true. Unless you're shopping from the future, even high-end gaming laptops will become outdated fast. It's the tradeoff for portability. BUT, like PMQ said, outdated isn't the same as useless, and it'll be a good while before you'll be facing a situation where you can't play new games at all. If you want a gaming laptop, you have to accept the fact that it won't be top-end forever, and that you won't be able to gradually upgrade it like a desktop. If you can't handle that, get a desktop.
