Hello All,

My name is Jim Nelson.I currently drive a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX everyday and a 2003 Nissan 350Z on the weekends. Unfortunately, I was laid off from an excellent job and I have to sell my beasts in favor of one longer in the tooth.

My car of choice is a 240SX, but I fear I know very little about them.

I was hoping the gurus of the group could explain the differences (pros and cons) of each body shell and powertrain.

Any information or links would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

-Jim

Jim,

Welcome to NICO! I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune. Times are tough right now for many. Your two cars are the two that I would buy if I could just go out and buy two new cars!

Anyway, we have several 240sx FAQ's already written that provide all of the information you are looking for except which 240 to get. I'll make that part even easier! Hehe.

Go here: http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....11422

That is the 240 you need! I just dropped the price to $3500 and it comes with excellent documentation since new. Actually, there are several cars for sale right now and if mine doesn't fit your needs there are others.

That link will take you to the Buy/Sell/Trade forum. It's very active, so be sure to look past the first page.

Again, welcome!

Andy

Thanks a lot, Andy.

I'll check out your recommendations. Where do I look for FAQs?

Your car is sweet, but Indy is kind of far from Langhorne, PA.

89-90 came with the ka24e91-98 came with the ka24de (dual over head cams and a bit more power)

89-93 are s13 body model avalible in both coupe and hatchback styles (coupe is slightly lighter and stiffer but hatch lines flow better ;) ) $2500-5200 used94-96 are s14a which are heavier than s13 but look pretty good. not sure on price97-98 are s14b same as s14a but has the best look of all. like %200 better looking than all of the others. at least 10K used99-present are s15 you will never get one of these as they are only sold in japan :rolleyes

dont get a s13 convertable (in my opinion) because they are heavy, flex, and only come in auto transmission.

o yeah and all s14 se models came with 5-lug which is something to concider. all others are 4 lug

EDIT: also all of those prices i mentioned are blue book value so ask under.

Thanks, J Spec

I should mention my priorities: LIGHT WEIGHT, RELIABLE, <$4000. I'm think 90-93. HP isn't that important, since an SR20DET swap is almost certain to occur a few years down the road.

You couldn't pay me to drive a convertible. I don't understand them.

thought I mite point out, there is no such thing as a 94 240. the line got suspended that year due to bad sales... only to be brought back for 4 more years of bad sales... to be taken out of production. They should bring back the 240 as nissan and its new german ceo are kickin some serious *** with their maximas and altimas. those are as common as the honda

no, there is such thing as a 94 240sx they are just incredibly hard to find:D http://autos.msn.com/vip/useds...c=vip

and they definatly should bring back the 240sx, that would rock.

EDIT: I might also add that the only 1994 240sx models were SE convertable models so who cares:D

for all intensive purposes they did. the convertables are just cruising cars, nothing to do with sport.

There are other FAQ's in the different 240 sections stickied at the top.

How much are you selling your cars for? Other details?

Where in PA is Langhorne? I have PA connections...;)

Where exactly is the Langhorne Speedway? I've lived here all my life and heard about it, but I'm not exactly sure what or where it is.

I'm imfamous at Atco Raceway, having mopped the floor with a bunch of rotaries with my near stock WRX. I ran [email protected] on a MBC, Silicone IC hoses, and a K&N filter. AFAIK, I hold the record for the fastest times on so few mods. As far as street racing, I run at the Falls Landfill and in Doylestown, but after outrunning Bristol's finest (the police) during my last outing, I gave up on street racing.

I'm looking to break into the 12s with the WRX before she is gone. Unfortunately, she's on eBay right now. So it's tomorrow or next Sunday and then no more racing. I haven't had my 350Z to the track because it's a road car, not a drag car. You have to get it above 110mph to truly appreciate it. :D

J-spec, if you are free some evening this week, I'd love to meet up with you and check out your car. I'll take you for a spin in the WRX or the Z. Anytime after Tuesday should be fine.

Damn, well under 3,000lbs. That's AWESOME!I hope I can track one down that's in good condition.

Hey J-Spec,

I tried to PM and email you to no avail. Email me at [email protected]. I definitely want to check out your ride in person.

I wouldn't mind meeting up if you dont mind looking at a car that is pretty much stock except for some exaust components and sound system. It has zero engine mods because, like i said, im getting a sr20. But if you are just wanting a test drive it might be posible. Im pretty buisy during the week. If you are going to atco tommorow or next sunday maybe I could meet you there.

I can't do tomorrow because my WRX has a broken transmission mount. I'll be at Atco next Sunday, weather permitting (since it's been so damned cold that they don't run). In fact, I can say for sure that I'll be Atco on Sunday, Feb. 2 around 10:30am.

that will look awesome. I dont not-like (yuck, double negetive) ragtops, they just are heavy and im really into performce so weight is the enemy. post some pics when you get worlds first convertible silvia.

EDIT: also, hurry up before i steal your idea and use it to get into a magazine ;)

Hey PlatWRX,I have a '03 Platinum Silver WRX as well. I would be interested to monitor the sale of your car, just to see what it goes for. Is Wyomissing Hills and Reading near Burks County? I think I have plenty of family in that area, also in Pittsburgh. I am looking to sell my '91 Nissan 240SX and I can vouch for the condition of Repoman's car as well. Let us know if you are interested, I may be able to arrange a transport through my uncle's company.

Repo man, you mentioned that you have PA connections... I can't help but be at least a little curious. I live near Pittsburgh and have a 240sx lined up to buy within the next week.

I would like to speak with you if you know of any way to get better prices/parts/labor/etc. in the PA area.

Or I could be way off with what you meant... :)
