Hey medic. I have my LED lights rigged up in a similar way on an offroad truck that I'm building, but it's for the running lights and brake lights in the rear.
Basically what I did was run a resistor in-line with the running light wire so that the LED is dimmer than when I press the brake pedal. When I press the brake full voltage is applied to the LED and it lights up brighter, since there is no resistor in-line with the brake wire.
If you do it my way your running lights will be a bit dimmer than if you had them straight to 12V, but when you hit your turn signal they will flash bright. You will likely have to play with resistor values to get the brightness elvels that you want.
