HELP! Lost engine power!

I have a 94 q45. When I start the car and press on the gas, the RPM isnt moving at all. I can shift it into any gear and wont get anything when I press on the gas. The RPM quickly drops below 500 and the car dies. When I was driving home it was acting odd. When I would press on the gas you could hear what I Believe was where the air filter making like a knocking or popping sound under the hood. Also when I would press on the gas all the way the RPM would go up but it would just rev, it wouldnt kick into gear. So anyways, car is in the driveway now with the issue of RPM dropping and nothing when i press on the gas. SOMEONE HELP PLEASE!

could it be a fuel clog? or a MAF clog? i mean the fuel would make sense cuz when i press on the gas, it dies. and if theres no gas it would die right?

Check your timing. You might have a timing chain jump a tooth.

i would suspect something fuel related. Do you hear a HUMMING from the back seat area?

nope no humming, but how about the catalytic converters? i started the vehicle back up this morning and it was revving and everything. my neighbor said if the catalytic converters get too hot they basically shut down and cause the problem it did?

normally when the cats melt it will cause something like that, but wont matter if its cold or not...
