I pulled the KS from a 97 Maxima. The harness that connects the knock sensor has only one wire going to the KS and two going into the other side of the connector. Is this normal??? I dont know whether my knock sensor is bad or the harness. I got the code for KS on th car, however.

Is it important o change both the connector and the KS when doing this job??

Please help - someone must have pulled the KS and connectors out from their car.

I can post some photos if you guys need more info.

That's correct. You should probably change both just to be safe, though.

You should do both the sensor and the harness. The harness is like 12 or 13 dollars, compared to the sensor that is chump change. The sensor comes in at about $174. The sensor is a voltage generating crystal. When struck it can generate up to 1 v. Since the voltage is so low its signal in the wire can be influnced by radio frequency or high voltage compnents such as the coils. Therefore a shield needs to be wrapped around its signal wire to keep out undesireable interference. That is your second wire going into the connector. It is a sheilded ground the stretches from the ECM to the sensor and ends right at the sensor connector.
