Is there any possible explanations to fix a knock in the engine aside from a complete tear down and rebuild? I have a 97 Kouki 240sx with a 5 spd and it has over 200k miles and I figure the guy I just got it from didn't take care of it. It ran ok when I got it and it has just started making noise. The engine is not low on oil, oil isn't cruddy or nasty, and I don't have any leaks present.

Thanks for your time

If there's a "knock" in your engine, then something is dreadfully wrong and you'll most likely need to take something apart.

You need to provide a little more information though:

Where does it sound like the noise is coming from? Top or bottom?
Does it make the noise at idle, certain RPMs, or throughout the entire range?
Is there a change in noise level under certain conditions? I.e. hot, cold, etc
Could you provide a video or a sound clip?
