I had a wobble in my pulley and when my friend's shop pulled the old pulley off the crankshaft where the key goes in is all messed up. The hole is much larger and the key does not stay in. He thought he could JB Weld the key in place put the area is to wide and the JB weld does not work. He said I should just swap the motor. I really do not have the money to pay someone to do a swap and wanted to know if there is anyway to fix the crank so that the key will fit.

I talked to another shop and they said they could try to grind the crank and weld the key in. Not sure if that will work. I am the original owner and the car has 170,000 miles and runs fine. I am not sure if I should just sell the car, fix the KA or do a swap with a SR20.

The only mods I did were a header, Air intake, computer/chip swap. The interior is almost new and the exterior does not have a ding, dent or any problems.

I guess I really want to know if a crank can be repaired or am I wasting time with my old crank?

THANKS

those mechanics sound shady jb weld/weld that sounds like more hassle in the long run you are probably gonna need to take the crank out and replace it. better than a cheap jury rig fix that may or maynot cost you the engine in the future but I dunno Im no mechanic thats probably what I would do though. A crank is alot cheaper especially if you do it yourself also probably want to change the bolt and pulley as well prob bent

If you have the cash then swap. other wise bite the bullit and get a new crank. It is going to cast you. the only question is if you pay now or pay a lot more later on when the "fixes" don't work any more.

Think about this: If JB weld or regular welding is so great why don't the original manufacturers use it?

there is an option to get you by temporarily. repeat the word temporarily, its an industrial epoxy by loctite that holds at extreme compression and rotation. costs about 70 bucks for a 1 lb unit of it, but it does work. ive used it on gun parts and on my car and on machining equipment. its mainly for fixing high end machining equip and pumps that spin up to 30k.

ill try to get the name later this week but you can just call loctite and ask their industrial section.
