the other day while driving my car down the road it just shut off on me. i found out that the ignition fusible link was blown. i put a new one in and it blew again while driving. now anytime i put one in it just blows once i turn the key into the on position. i know something has got to be shorting out somewhere. can anybody help me track it down or give me specifics of where to look? ive already checked the usualy spots but maybe theres something i looked over. any help would be greatly appreciated.

disconnect the altenator and try again[ insulate the alt leads so they dont short out] if it dont blow your altenator has a short. I assume your talking about a fuse link not a fuse right??

correct, the fusible link for the ignition system. but i dont think it has anything to do with the alternator. reason i say this is because after i found out the fusible link was blown i put another one in and it started up and ran fine. until i drove it down the road again and it shut off while driving. now anytime i try to see if something i did may have fixed it and put another fusible link in they just blow when i turn the key into the on position. i think it may be a short somewhere in the harness. but who knows you could be right.

alright i did what you said and the fusible link didnt blow. so i took the alternator off and im gonna run down to autozone and check it just to see what happens. now if the alternator has a short in it can it still make a charge?

yes it can still generate a charge. but their tester should have shown something wrong either with it over charging or a diode failure.

hmmm, it didnt show it over charging. it was right where it was suppose to be. and it didnt say anything about any diodes or anything. but then again i went to autozone and you know how those places can be. i think tomorrow im gonna take it to a place that specializes in rebuilding them and such and see what they can find out. especially before i go buy a new one. but the problem is definately in that area because i did what you said and the FL didnt blow. ill get back to you tomorrow after i find out more.
