My 91 300zx TT wont turn over and it is p@ssing me off. I spent 3 weeks taking out the blown engine and transmission and everything else. I bought an engine for the swap. It has compression and wiring harness is all new in the car and changed the injectors and the coilpacks are new. Installed everything. However when i go to start the car, it makes the sound like it wants to start, but nothing fully turns over. I dont know if its the cam angle sensor or not, it is timed properly. It almost acts as though it not getting a spark. You can smell gas and pumps are working. There are no leaks anywhere from what i can tell. But until it runs i cant really check for too many things. Does anyone know how they can help me. oh yeah and the security light comes on but i did trouble shot that too and its not the security. I thought it could be the security cutting off the spark but it wasnt that. So any suggestions would be appreciated. I do have a manual and trouble shot alot of things so anything would helpl.

Maybe theres a problem with ECU? I dunno man I havent gotten that far but try double checking all your stuff. Maybe a bad connection. Maybe if you have a friend push the car and start form gear? Check twinturbo.net youll ifnd an answer to that alot easier and quicker.

will the engine spin completely by hand? so we can rule out physical interferance from say a timing belt put on wrong? have you pulled the plugs? are they wet? have you verified your getting spark? tried giving it a shot of starting fluid?

okay, problem is fixed. Now the car runs and when you take the key out of the ignition, its still runs. Changed the ignition switch and checked my ecu but the only way i figured out to turn it off is to pull the relay fuse in the under the hood. Any ideas? This is just weird.

needs a new ignition cylinder, or it's not engaging the ignition switch correctly

well the nissan shop here. Thinks it is possibly the ecu but not 100%. Then again they said that maybe the wiring harness is hooked up wrong somewhere. I changed the ignition cord/harness but that didnt help.

*Check the fuel pump relay, checking to make sure you have it connected. * Make sure there is pressure in the fuel line, make sure fuel deliver/return fuel lines aren't crossed.* PTU unit plugged in correctly and it is a working PTU?* Coilpacks connected to correct spots?* Timing good, timing belt didn't skip any teeth?* CAS working?* Check the vacuum lines to the FPR?* Check the ignition relay?* Check the main fuses (next to battery?)* ECU throwing any codes?* Throttle cable connected correctly?* Check the spark plugs to make sure they aren't fouled?

Here are just a few to get you started....but in the future....more details. Good luck and shoot me a call if you got any other questions.

Wow.I'd say first to check with your connections. Sounds like you've got some ***-backward wiring. I'm with evildky on the ignition switch. But I definitely wouldn't go blaming the ECU just yet. That's one of the first things novice mechanics like to blame when, in fact, they rarely go bad under normal use. Plus, I don't believe your ignition system goes through the ECU.

coilpacks are all good on the car. wiring harness seems all good, double checked it all. ignition switch has been changed. It fires and runs now, but it seems as though the 2nd spark plug on the passenger side is firing properly. The spark plug wasnt wet and not even the new one we put in changed. used a spark plug tester and its all good but it doesnt seem as though the fuel injector is working or it is clogged right there. So i might i think have to change the injectors out. And the final thing is when the car runs, it doesnt turn off. You litteraly can have the car on and running and go to turn it off with the key out of the ignition and it's still running. You have to pull the ignition relay out from under the hood to shut it off. I had a friend in Peoria, Illinois who had the same problem after doing an RB26dett swap in his TT. And he is a very seasoned vet when it comes to working on TT's. He took out his ASH-Spec ECU the same one i have and put in a standard stock one and boom it turned the car off. Weird stuff. I really miss my 240's they are much easier than these engines. everyone tells me once i get this thing running properly that i wont want to go back, but at this point im getting close to throwing in the towel. There isnt a single shop in town here willing to work on this car let alone any mechanics at our nissan that really know what they are doing on this car, and they told me that themselves. So thanks so far to everyone for the suggestions and i might give you a call if you dont mind.

Hmmm, it does sound like either connections aren't routed correctly or either (like your first guess) the ECU is going bad/causing problems.

You try swapping out your ecu with a known working ECU from the same year and engine type?

lol surprised nobody mentionned that yet.

How long will it run before shutting off

Have you let it run for about 5 minutes before pulling the plug?
