I recently had my springs installed, however, there seems to be a bit of problem. Whenever I make a slow right turn I hear a thump on the right side as if the spring is not seating properly. I took it to the shop twice without any success. They said that everything looks fine and are trying to insinuate that the spring may be defective. Could this have something to do with the bump stop being improperly trimmed? Did anyone else encounter this issue??

The bump stop is only for when the strut is bottoming out, that won't happen on a slow turn. And the spring shouldn't be able to move around whatsoever, there's a LOT of tension on it, so I doubt the actual spring is moving. My first thought would be that one of the bolts wasn't tightened properly allowing for movement of the strut, but you would think the shop would pick up on that.

Is the thump there regardless if the car is moving or not (I.E. turning it in your driveway)?Does it make the same/any sounds when going over a bump (speed bump, lip of a driveway etc)?

Sorry to hear about your problem. I did my own 2 weeks ago and got it aligned 2 days later. If you haven't had an alignment ask the dude to check everything over. Last week end I took each wheel off and rechecked each bolt top and bottom. There are three in the wheel well to remove the front shock and spring assembly and the three on each tower under the hood. Also, check the large bolt that mounts the shock to the tower at the top. there should be 3/8 to 1/2 of thread showing. I did the orignial work in a shop but check everything at home with the stock jack. there is also the step by step post with pictures

Thanks Guys,I only hear this sound when I'm making a slow right hand turns ... like into a driveway or when I'm parking. It also happens if the car is standing still and I turn the steering wheel back and forth. I will doble check everything myself. Thanks again for all your comments

Definitely look at tightening the Strut Master Bolt (Center Top of Strut. Even with an impact wrench it tends to be hard to tighten as it mounts to the one part of the strut tat can rotate when tightening.

Use an impact wrench, this works the best.

Is the noise always on one or another side of the car? Or does the noise seem to travel?

Two cents, -- Wind

I will try the impact wrench... the noise is only on the right side and only when I'm making a slow right turn or turn the steering wheel back and forth. It doesn't happen while going over bumps.

thanks

The nut on top of the strut is an 18mm and it also has a allen a 6mm I believe, use a combo wrench and the allen so the strut does not spin this should be easy enough

Like everyone else says, make sure all bolts are tightened. Any update??
