Help- is there an upside down and a right side up to an inter cooler. can the inlet and outlet on the intercooler be at the top or do they have to be at the bottom when you mount the intercooler???

whatever suits your needs man. doesnt matter, air flow isnt any different. Just according to how you need your intercooler piping done.

No it wont affect the cooling, because the core is in the same place. The inlet and out let are just upside down. And even if it did (which it doesent) gravity pulls down not up

HOT AIR RISES..... WHICH IS WHY ITS A BIT MORE EFFECTIVE WITH THE INLETS ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE CORE.

If the entire intercooler is exposed or at least most of it, then I would say it wouldnt matter..... many intercoolers ive seen have the inlet/outlet on approximately the same position horizontally...

It doesn't matter. The i/c is pressurized...don't think of it as being filled with air. There may be cooler and warmer areas while the core is pressurized, but which side is up or down won't make a difference...ducting will.

Also, exposure of the i/c core doesn't matter anywhere near as much as proper ducting. Basics of a heat exchanger mang.

plus to add to the post about hot air rising... in an intercooler, hot air doesnt have any space to rise, it is just forced through the tubes within the core, there is no wide open space for air to rise even if it was sitting in the intercooler without being under pressure

i would think it shouldnt matter, i mean if an STi can have tis stock IC laying horizontal...then it shouldnt matter, im probably wrong

and i think evo's have the pipes more toward the top...

I have a magazine where they took a 350z and put a blacktop motor in it.. they did something similar to what your talking about with the intercooler, the air is funneled through the bumper and up into the intercooler which is laying face down..
