Hi folks, Sorry for the noob question, but I can't seem to find a sure-fire answer for installing my thermostat. Bought it from the local auto-store; this is a 91 S13 BTW. It came with a rubber 'seal' that fits around the outside of the t.stat. The problem is the seal is almost 1/4" thick, and does not fit down inside the 'lip' on the front cover or the water jacket. When I put it all together, there's a huge gap between the two metals.

If I remove the gasket, it the t.stat will fit inside the lip, but it is loose(will rattle if I shake the cover). It did not include any other gasket.

Should I apply liq. gasket around the outside to keep it from being lose? (as well as the routed areas intended for the liq.gasket). I'm using permatex RTV red(hi temp).

Thanks: hope the pictures help.-Jamie

Here's a pic of the seal... I know some thermo's are made to be universal, but isn't that rubber seal kinda neccessary?

I wasn't satisfied w/the fitment, so I returned it to the auto store. FWIW, the invoice did say it was for a KA24E... bought another one from another auto store, and it fit a little better-didn't include the rubber. I bought a paper gasket, and it sealed over top the t'stat much better.

Mod you can kill this thread...-Slip
