So its almost that time, I have been putting this off for what seems like forever.I decided that I definitely want to get an s13 chassis. I haven't located one yet but I intend to search as soon as I can (February).

I need your help to teach me the necessities of purchasing a worthy chassis for what will most likely be a long period of use (at least 3 years).

I have read about checking for rust in the usual places but I will double check again in the future to refresh my memory.

I want to know the particulars on how I should go about buying a chassis and transporting it:

Which year Chassis? Newer seems better? I am going hatch but wouldn't mind a coupe....?

What kind of setup will I need to put the chassis on so that I can work on it, under and in the chassis?

What should I pay for transporting the chassis? What should I pay for a hatch chassis?

To give you a little info on this I want to do an I6 s13 project: RB20 (im on a budget for now)

This will be my first car project ever, besides something tiny, like installing an intake. lol

still I have yet to change my own oil

However I am mechanically inclined and I work hard and like a challenge.

Here is my space for storing the chassis:I can clear out most of the stuff to make more roomthe clear space that is in the picture is about 17 feet long and about 7.5 feet wide. will this do?

If you have any info or pointers that would be of use I would really love to hear your input! Thanks!

storage is nice. dont listen to these fools that say you cant tow a 240 on a car dolly with the rear on the ground, as long as its 5 SPEED. of course if you want no chance of damage unhook the drive shaft. auto, its a must to have the rear off the ground. uhaul has some decent rates, so you have to budget that in, plus you need a truck thats capable of towing, or a good friend that you have to hook up. if you are looking for a project, i wouldnt spend more than 1000, 1400, tops, if the car is in rust free condition with/wo problems, as long as its complete. hope this helps somewhat. you need at least 1k to 1500 to play with to get what you want into your garage, expect another 2-4k in parts/upgrades to get where you want by what you said. good luck in your search.

Rb will not be too hard to do, you need a R32 engine crossmsmber from HCR32 GTS-T, so you can use stock mounts.Their pretty much drop in. Wiring will not be hard ether, we have a really good RB section here, you will find all your RB info there. You should also check with coolwhip (Ricky) from Raw Brokerage, he should be able to hook you up with all the parts you might need for the RB20 if you haven't done so. He's located in FL, so it's close to where you live.

As for chassis, check engine bay 360 top to bottom, under rails , rocker panels, rear quarters, rear inner wheel arches, and rear under car section, and hatches are notorious for rust under hatch wing.

I would suggest, car with bad motor, bad trans, not running, for your project.

thanks guys for your input, your posts raise another question:should I just pay for towing service? like get a company that is fairly cheap to do it? I could enlist the help of one of my friends but hes the only one I know with a truck and hitch that I could ask for help.

I checked out the RB info a little in the past but I am just taking it one step at a time thanks for the info on that as well.
