I've had a terrible time having my air conditioning replaced on my 92 Q. I have a new OE compressor with hoses and a receiver / evaporator. Does anyone have a good mechanic referral for me? They must have R12 equipment and refrigerant. I live in Redondo Beach, CA. I put a call into Jerry Tucker's place in San Diego. I'd like to find something more local.I really want to find the best. I wish I lived in Atlanta! Thanks for the help,Dougp.s. went I get some time I'll share the horror story on this!

Find a professional automotive AC shop. In LA, there have to be at least 5.

I know San Diego it's a bit of a haul from LA, but nothing like going to Scottsdale...

JT seems to be the closest thing I've heard of to a west coast T3. I think absent of finding a highly reputable A/C specialist in LA, I would make the trip.

JT does not do R12.

He referred me to another shop.

I wish I would have converted to 134!

No you don't unless you repalce the whole system. The R12 and R134a systems use different components (except maybe for the evaproator coils).

A staright up conversion with R12 parts (after flushing) results in only a 85% efficiency. Best to maintain an R12 system as an R12 system. Be sure to replace all O rings and seals and drier and any suspect hoses as you don't want to lose any R12 no matter how slowly.
