Hey guyz, Idle Air Valve . . is that what I need if my car idles rough and then turns off ? If the plugs and wires are good ?? The IAV is about $120 at autozone near my house . . . is it worth it, and can I install it myself? And how? Where is the old one located??? HELPPPPP. Please post pics of it if you have it, or tell me where it is so I can locate it. Also . .could it be the PCV valve? That's only like $5.00. The car turns on perfectly fine, and then it slowly dies out. The car shakes a lot during that process......

PCV valve is a real pain to get (ka24de) although ive never done it, supposodly you have to remove the alternator just to see it.

Today or tomorrow, I am going to take out the Idle Air Control Valve and clean it with some Carb Cleaner, and then I am going to put it back in. If that fixes the problem then everything is good, if it doesn't, then I'll have to find the PCV valve. All I know is that the guy I bought the car from said it maybe needed a vacuum or oxygen sensor . .

I hate people who treat their cars like $hit . .for real.

PS - It's a KA24E

pcv valve is easy to remove/clean/replace on a SOHC. It's screwed rite into the intake collector (w/ the ECCS letters on it). Just remove, blast it w/ some carb cleaner & replace it. I doubt this is your problem, though...

maybe it's a clogged fuel filter? do a tune up if not done already; i always do when i buy a car... complete fluid change as well...

run a ECU trouble code check before throwing part$$$ @ it, visually check all vaccuum hoses. I had a broken hose underneath the BPT valve to the EGR & a torn throtle body intake boot.

IAV? do you mean AIV? or IAA? cause I don't see that exact wording on my search... oh, possibly think of installing an extra ground wire as well... there's one on the firewall to the valve cover on the driver side & another on the exhaust cat to the body under the car.

Ok, if it's the Idle Air Adjusting Unit, it's on the back of the ECCS box...near the 2 EGR valve someone posted a link to the pics... do a search if that's what you're looking for. But that's to adjust idle speed.

AIV also on search: black hose from air box to a black plastic box then to a metal valve then to the exhaust pipe on driver side.

Okay, so I found the damn Idle Air Valve Controller or whatever you want to call it . .unbolted it . . cleaned it out real nice and put it back in . . MADE ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE!!! The car still stalled every single time I turned it on. The car won't maintain any rpm. If I give it some gas and take it to 4,000 rpm . . it'll drop no matter what. Even though my foot hasn't moved a centimeter .. it drops like ****. The car shakes really violently and stalls every single time. So my next goal is to find the PCV . .:-\ wow, this **** really sucks .. I wish I could take it to a mechanic but I can't cause I'm waiting for the title and can't get insurance or registration until it comes in . . and even then . . I doubt the car would run decent enough for me to make it to the mechanic which is about 40 blocks away...

Yeah, well I contacted one guy near me, see if he wants to hang out and maybe help out with my car, and he's from the board so hopefully he'll respond. In the meanwhile . .I hear the next thing to check is the MAF . . so I'm gonna pull that sucker out today and clean it out . .see if that helps even a little . .if not . . then I'm screwed because it must be a bigger problem than it being just a valve or two.

be careful w/ that little wire in the maf...a good jar /drop will break it then you'll really need to get a new one...

just make sure the plug is on tight... i'm missing a little wire retainer on mines but w/ the plug secure, my idle is smoooth. I was hoping of bending a paperclip to make a new one, but I'm kinda lazy.

Relly, gosh, learn how to read the ECU codes 1st... it's kinda pain to get at the pass floor panel off the 1st time.

****, man . .I'm getting the **** towed to a mechanic near me for $45 bucks so he can check it out and then tell me that it needs like $400 in work done to it . . :-\ ehh.. well, let's hope that's not the case . .so I'm leaving work early right now to do that. Umm . .the MAF by the way . .I couldn't even get the screws off of it . .it was so tightly attached to the intake. I'll update you guys on it soon

THanks for the help tho guys
