Help identifying a coolant hose fitting?

Hi, I'm new here. So anyway, me and my cousin are trying to re-assemble his 95 240SX. My cousin and his friend pulled the motor (KA24DE) and had it rebuilt, and were halfway through re-installing the motor when his friend bailed on him. So now I'm trying to help my cousin put everything back together. So we have the pretty much everything hooked up and were preparing to start the car, but when we went to fill it with coolant, we noticed it starting to pour out of this fitting attached to the passenger side of the engine block (picture below).

Obviously this fitting connects to a coolant hose, but we have no leftover hoses and we have no idea where the other end of the hose connects to. We have have every other coolant hose hooked up, including the radiator hoses and heater hoses.

So basically I'm wondering, what is this coolant fitting for, and where does its corresponding hose connect to? Also, is this coolant fitting essential to the car running properly? Or is it just one of those hoses that does something trivial like run coolant through the intake manifold to warm it or something? If the fitting is non-essential, can it be plugged? If so, what would be the best way to plug it?

Any help would be appreciated. This is the first 240 I've worked on, and it doesn't help that I'm trying to reassemble things someone else took apart.

Hmm, well we already have two big hoses running to the heater core, maybe there's another one? I guess I'll check tomorrow. Thanks for the response.
