The previous owner of my 96 240 cut all the wires underneath the dash for some reason. I know the car had an aftermarket alarm on it, and I was wondering if the piece that I am touching in the pic is part of the alarm system or just a relay from the car. The only worry I have that is when I splice all the wires back together, the car wont run due to a starter-kill system or something like that. Anyone dealt with this before?

Sorry I can't tell you what that is, but I can damn near guarantee nothing from the factory would come in a clear plastic case like that.

Looks like some form of shock or motion sensor.

well, the wires are color coded. Just match the colors

Did you even read the question?!?!? I know they are color coded, I just wanted to know what the extra box was...becasue if it is a starter kill alarm system then it will not allow the engine to start even if I just wire everything back together. That is what keeps thieves from just cutting alarm wires and stealing your ride. Thanks everyone else though.

Did you take 2 minutes to think about what PoorManQ45 said?

Do you even know how a starter kill system works? If those wires don't connect to the starter or fuel system/etc, then it's not part of a starter kill system.

If you want to know what you need to rewire your car w/, you can unhook basically all the alarm stuff and just wire it back to stock first.

To figure out what is stock you either need to use (a) common sense and/or (b) a FSM that will show you where each wire goes. You have to trace the wires via following the line or color to figure out where it comes from and where it could be going.

That was the entire reason for this post. To see if the clear relay was something that was stock or an added component. I didnt want to have to trace the wires from the relay through the entire dash to see if it was wired into the starter/fuel sys wiring or not. Without doing so, and assuming the relay is part of an alarm system...the car would not start even if I just "put the colored wires back together. " Thats the entire reason for a starter kill system to exist. If not then anyone could just cut wires and drive off in your car. So I guess the question really is do YOU know how a starter kill system works??

Yes I do. And if you knew anything about it, you'd realize that none of those wires would trace back to anything remotely close to a starter wire or fuel pump relay.

And if you had actually done that (either a or b), you wouldn't have had to post this question.

Keep up the attitude buddy, ppl are just gonna start slowly ignoring you.

I'm all for helping ppl, and I know PoorManQ is usually an a$$ (you know it pmq!), your response to his straight forward answer was unwarranted. If you had done what he said before posting this question, this thread would not exist.

Smart *** people like you and him are why this forumn is sucking so much anymore. Nobody wants to help anyone else..they just want to try and argue to see who knows more about meaningless ****...but whatever. If he hadnt tried to make someone feel like a moron for asking a simple question, you would not have gotten involved and tried to "help" anyways. Everyone always tells people to use the search button...but when they do all they can ever find is topics where people tell everyone to to search. It is a neverending process. If people would just either a)shut the f up and stay out of it or b) actually give some useful info to another member w/o being a smartass about it this board would be as good as other forumns...unfortunately its nowhere close yet.

Guys, lets play nice. Posting idiotic replies is just as bad as someone posting something you may deem as stupid. Nobody wins and the site/members lose.

Knock it off and put your "helping" hats back on....

Hey, I'm not trying to be a jerk.

I gave you a straight forward anwser. Put the wires back together! If it works, great. If it doesn't, connect them through th elcear box

That clear case is a motion detector, and the brown thick wires that you mentioned are probably for the starter interrupt circuit, the only thick wires used on alarm system are normally for the starter connection due to the high amperage....My suggestion: Do not reconnect the wires, they were cut for a reason...remove the alarm system and wiring and install it to a "test" car or battery and play with it until you know it works and then, If you like, reinstall it correctly in your car...
