While checking things under the hood, I noticed this:

It's soft rubber and oily/greasy on the inside. No idea why I never noticed it before. No recent work has been done on the vehicle. What is it and where does it go?

Okay, how do I post an image from my Google Photos?

It looks like what goes between the caliper bolts so they can slide in and out. :chuckle:

Just guessing here, but could the hood sensor be broken?
Some cars have a sensor inside a spring- which is covered by an accordian type thingy like what you have in the picture.

Makes me wonder if that rubber part came off where that hole is just to the right of that white circle.

Like i said, I am guessing - not familiar with '18 Rogue

Nope, I'm with Casper. That looks like a caliper slider-bolt bellows.

I guess what threw me off is the fact that it is up ON TOP of the engine.

Guess a mechanic put it there while working on the brakes?
Hope, he put on new ones!

Better check, you'll have a rusted and stuck slider if he didn't. That can mean the whole 9-yards, caliper, rotor, pads. Not a good problem to have over a $1.50 rubber boot.

This isn't a Rogue, but here's what you're looking for. There should be two on each caliper, a top and a bottom.

I checked all 4 brakes - all slide pins have their bellows (thankfully). There's still a bit of mystery. All of the bellows in place have three ribs. The piece that I found has two. here's a close-up of the part I found:

I bought the Rogue used with about 36K on the odometer. The brakes have not been done since I've owned it, going on two years now. I kinda can't believe that I never noticed this thing laying there all the times I've had the hood up. Just shaking my head over that. Seems very unlikely that it got kicked up there off the road....

Instead of driving myself crazy, I’ll just probably toss it out and be done dwelling on it. As long as my rogue is running great, it’s all that matters. Trust me, I have ocd too, but I just force myself to move on, like when I drop a bolt into the engine compartment, and my ocd self trying to find it.

But eventually I say F-it, and move on and forget about it.

WOW... if you have OCD, I wonder what I have? I never give up until I find the bolt, or whatever!

Point of diminishing returns. The rogue is 13yrs old. I’m an old fart and it ain’t worth it with my creaking bones. I would have been miserable thinking about it in my engine bay for the last month.

Thank god I forgot about it and where it came from.

I just say to myself that it will bounce out of there someday. My ocd is workable, if I can’t find a solution, and no harm being done,I move on. :inoutgay:
