Hi everyone. New poster. I've been following this forum for quite some time and have learned much here. My son has a 98 Pathfinder with 250,000 miles. We've replaced timing belts, water pumps, valve cover gaskets and a million other things.

One thing we're having trouble with is finding a replacement for the breather hose in the pic. If someone knows the name and/or part number, your help would be greatly appreciated. It isn't named in the FSM that I can find. I've tried bending straight hose but with the two 90 degree turns, it just kinks.

Thanks a lot.

I would suggest taking the hose off and to an auto parts store. They may identify it or have something similar you can use. It is just a breather hose for the air intake. You may also buy a 90 or 45 degree elbow and some clamps and cut the one you have tried and make your own. I had to do that to a lower radiator hose once.

What I'm using right now keeps the car running but looks like crap. It's about 2 feet of 9/16s inch ID heater hose with a 90 degree half inch copper fitting with a couple inches copper pipe sweated into both ends, It had to be that long so it wouldn't kink. What I'm not sure of is if that extra length affects performance. Good idea on bringing the old one to the parts store.

From the CourtesyParts.Com website, it looks like it's Nissan p/n 14860NA aka 14099-R50XXX (XXX may vary by year).
Select your year, Genuine Nissan Parts, Secondary Air System.

Is there no part number on the original?

What's wrong with the original?

The original has a big split on one end that a bunch of RTV silicone wouldn't seal. The other end is starting to split and the whole thing is hard as a rock. I'm pretty sure there is no part number on it but I'll check again. It could be faded. Appreciate the part number. Thanks.

Dang. There is a number on the hose but it doesn't look like any part number I've ever seen. Along the length it keeps repeating
1(symbol?)7902.

Could you provide your VIN? I can look up an exact part number for you.

Your brake fluid looks kinda dark, when was the last time you had it flushed?

Welcome to NICO!

My VIN is JN8AR05Y5WW2325xx.

Funny you mention the brake fluid...yesterday I replaced it in my son's PF. I do it every three years or so.

That engine shot with the hose circled isn't my car. I pulled it off the internet because it showed clearly the hose in question. I had already removed the hose and rigged it temporarily with the heater hose on my PF.

Pathfinders are great vehicles. My two sons each have a '98 and my stepson has a '97. Over the years I've learned how to fix pretty much anything that went bad...except that dadgum leaky rear main seal. I just don't have the courage to try and drop the transmission.

Great, that's a good interval for the brake fluid.

I wouldn't worry about the RMS unless it's leaking like a sieve. Have you tried using high mileage oil for a few oil change intervals to see if it slows or stops?

According to FAST, [14099-0W010] HOSE-AIR is the part you are looking for.

I'm impressed you even can read the part number, i just went out and looked at my '98 and saw nothing on it. Would like to see your "jerry rig" ...lol whatever works, right? Once you find out the part number or what you did to fix it please come back and tell us, i notice alot of people just take information and leave without an answer and that is frustrating for the rest of us when it happens. I will be doing a oil pan gasket replacement and any information that would make my job easier would be appreciated. Thanks for joining Nico, i hope with your experience with all the pathfinders in your family you can help the forum. I have a '98 and any information is useful information for the rest of us. Thanks for joining the forum as i am also a new member who is encouraging more members to speak up and give us all the information and experience they have. This is my first Pathfinder and i love it! My
girlfriend has named her Luna. She drives it all the time and i don't ever worry about her breaking down on the side of the road.

I use Mobil 1 10w30. If I could find a little heavier weight synthetic I'd probably use it because of the RMS. What high mileage oil are you referring to? is it synthetic? What properties does it have that makes it better for high mileage vehicles? The RMS doesn't leak a lot but leaves two or three drops overnight. It bugs my son because he doesn't want to park in his girlfriend's driveway because of it.

I too am using 10w30 in my '98 Pathfinder and after replacing my valve cover gaskets have found that i still leave a drop of oil on the pavement. I believe it is coming from the front "U" part of my oil pan behind the harmonic balancer. There is a hard gasket there that i believe is rotted out and dropping oil. Have you replaced the oil pan gasket and it's U gasket?

Great. Thank you for the part number. My son took the car but I'll get a pic of the jury-rigged hose this weekend when he comes over.

Regarding the oil pan gasket questions, fortunately it hasn't gone bad on any of my vehicles. It is a real chore to replace on a 4WD...not so much on 2WD. That leak from behind your harmonic balancer is most likely coming from your front crankshaft seal or one or both of the camshaft seals. These seals are very easy to replace when the everything is apart for a timing belt change.

Mobil 1 has a 10W-40 high mileage formulation. HM oil typically contains seal conditioners which may slow or stop leaks (depending on why the seal itself is leaking - if it's torn or ripped, it probably won't do much). HM oil often has more detergent and anti-wear additives and is typically on the thicker side of the viscosity scale (i.e. M1 HM 5W-30 is a "heavy" 30 grade, closer to a 40 grade oil).

I think I'll look around online and see if I can find a case of that Mobil 1 10W40 high mileage oil. Currently I do add some Bar's Stop Leak to the 10W30 to keep the RMS tight but that higher viscosity on the HM may just stop the drips entirely.

Nissan sure is proud of that itty bitty hose. There are a lot of sellers online and they all run about $32 plus shipping. But I'm going to get it anyway. Below is my temp fix. The engine seems to run fine with it but you never know. Its like try to suck through a short straw versus a long one...there's a big difference in effort.
