I've recently lost the keys to my 1988 300ZX 2+2 which I just bought a week ago . What should I do? I've called one of the Nissan dealerships and they said they couldn't do anything about it and was pretty rude about it! They've got to have some sort of record, shouldn't they?!?! Anyways, ANY suggestion is welcome! It's driving me nuts just staring at a car that I could be driving but can't. PLEASE HELP!!

Call a locksmith. Or, if you can get into your car, open the glovebox. If there is a sticker with a four digit number on it, take that key code to the dealership and have them cut you a new key. If not, you're stuck paying a locksmith whatever they want.

THANKS!! I found the sticker with the ignition key code in the glove box. I'm going to the dealership tomorrow, if they're opened. I'll let you know if it worked or not.

Keys are a couple dollars. Cutting should be free. Are you really asking how much it will cost when you can't even drive the car? If so, you should invest in an annual bus pass and just sell the car to someone who can afford the gas.

cutting a key from a code casts more from my experience, still shouldn't be more than $20 tops

I had my key lost at a garage. A locksmith made me a new one for 75 bucks. It took him 10 mins

I have NEVER paid for a key to be cut at a dealership. Not once. I've ordered many Z32 style keys for my Z31 over the years and had no issues with them cutting the keys for free when they came in. But I guess different dealerships will do different things.

I was just curious about the cost, that's all. I just hope that they'll cut the key with the four digit key code that I'm going to give them. Should I bring my VIN just in case? It's an 88 so I hope they can.

Having the VIN won't do you any good. The car is too old. They won't have any way to verify.

Price will vary depending on how much you spend on the key. Keys are cheap. I can't see a dealership charging for cutting a key you just bought there.

I've never had a key cut at a dealeship but when the locksmith I use cuts a key form a code or vin they charge a bit more than a simple copy, and if you don't mid the larger feee they can even come to you but thats $60-$80
