I bought a 14" permacool fan back in april 2005 from summit racing. Aslo i bought one of their electric thermostat kits so it would not be running the whole time since start up. I noticed the the thermostat was to big to screw into the block so i spliced the wire into the water temperature sensor that goes to the ecu. I believe it is #18 blue/brown strip. The fan would turn on at the first bar on the temp gauge. The problem is on cold mornings the car would have a hard time starting and when i managed to get it started, it would stall if i gave it any gas untill it slightly warmed up. (about 3 min) The problem went away as the weather got warmer in the summer( here in LI NY)and the engine would not be as nearly as cold. Now goin back into the winter months i see the problem is comming back again. My only guess is that the sensor is telling the ecu that then engine is warmer than it truely is (because of my splicing job) and not putting enough fuel through it. Any ideas?

If you are speaking of an electric fan that replaced the old clutch style fan, it needs to be on all of the time. If your car starts like crap in the cold, check your oil. You are supposed to use a thinner oil in the winter because engine temps are generally colder. Nissan recommends in the summer 50w20. I would switch to a 10w30 full synthetic. Take 2 containers of oil maybe a cup or so each. Leave one container in the house and the other outside, away from rain. Then during the winter check it when the temp reaches between 10 - 30 degress outside and compare it with the one inside. Now imagine your cold engine trying to move pistons and the crank in that. I would personally change the oil. Let me know what type of fan it is, a replacement or add-on.

Yes it is an electic fan that replaced the stock electric and clutch fan. When i did some searching on the forums when i bought the fan, everyone said the fan shouldnt be running all the time, only when the engine gets up to temperature. Its only 60 degrees right now and the problem is just setting in barely. Is that cold enough? I also know that the car ran fine all winter before i did the install in march/april, the problem started afterwards on the same oil. So im not sure if its the oil.
