Ok, I am patiently waiting for my new-to-me '95 to arrive, and to replace my '91. And while doing so, I am running out of available time to build a box at my work's woodshop. Our store is closing soon, so I've got a strict schedule to finish this project.

Ah, you may (or may not) be asking yourself, ..what the hell, project of what? Well, you see, I enjoy great audio, and I'd like to continue the trend in my new(er) car. I need to build an enclosure and an amp rack in the trunk of this 95. Problem is, the car isn't available for me to take measurements of the trunk's interior, so I have to sit and wait with all these boxes of gear around my apartment, just arranging the equipment and drawing random plans on paper, with no real measurements to finalize a plan and begin construction.

Here's where you come in. Do you have a 95-98 240sx? Are you bored enough to help me? Are you off work and want to do something with your day that will brighten another's? Then have I got a deal for you! I need desperately to know the dimensions of the trunk. More specifically, I am going to create my masterpiece on top of the ledge behind the rear seats, and before the spare tire well. That little ledge looks spacious and yet out of the way for any real use. These are the dimensions I beg you for:

-Cutout LxWxH of the back seat opening that you can see when you flip down the seat.-The angle of the back seat relative to the trunk.-The LxWxH of the air space from this opening to the ledge ending, and if anything is in the way (rear speakers will be gone, so don't mind them.)-Specific measurements of any obstructions or changes in the trunk's shape on each side in that little area in question, and any other little places that might cause an otherwise simple install to go horribly wrong.-What the top of this little space looks like, and can it bolt down from above? (heard a nasty rumor the gas tank is just underneath this space )-The basic dimensions of the rest of the trunk, including the opening, so I can roughly calculate if I need to build this thing in pieces or not so it will fit INTO the trunk at all.

Lastly, pictures of this part of the trunk either stock or w/ a system or whatnot would be awesome, since pics are worth a bunch of words...I'm doubting a thousand everytime, since some pics are worth zero, and others an encyclopedia. In this case, pics such as these that I need would bring about various ways to say thank you, and possibly angels singing.

I appreciate everyone who helps me in my cause, and if you know of a way to accelerate someone's goddamn tax return in the mail, lemmie know...thats what is holding this whole car buying issue up anyhow. (not my side, the buyer of my car!)

(BTW, something I've learned while typing this messed up comedic yet pleading request...XM Radio channel 150 will rot your brain.)

Thank you! I appreciate it. Most desparately I need to know raw dimensions, so I can figure out the basic plan. Pictures are also useful, but I would love some numbers w/ them. I owe you one.

sorry to hear that.

I did measure the trunk-pass thru. The area just below the rear speakers is 32" wide, about 8" deep, and 8" tall. The height was measured to the bottom of the speakers, so theres actually more room than that.

..<double sigh>....Thats really nice of you to measure that for me. Too bad that 95 is gone...and oh yeah...my 91 Hatch got creamed by an SUV while a friend of mine was driving it. 100% totaled. There is a post of this somewhere out there...I think I labeled it "what happens when you let someone borrow your 240sx."

Regardless, I'm creating a master plan w/ those measurements. I'm a bit sketchy on exactly what each measurement means. If I am to read that there is only an 8" height at the opening of the rear seat fold down to the edge of the metal above it...wow thats small..

I think I'll draw or scan my raw drawings of my plan, and see what you think. BTW, I'm obviously needing a new 240sx! Hollar!

if you take out the rear speakers and amp and stuff there is about 10" of space. the upper deck is a little akwardly shaped so it's probably best to have the car when you do the work.

if you end up getting another s14, post up what you do because i'm thinking of doing the exact same thing.

oh, and ***** slap that guy until he gives you your money back.

looks like my settlement money was good enough to buy a Zenki! I picked out a red 95 from IL (you can see it in the cars for sale part of this forum), ...pick it up in a few days.

I'll be doing the install here in a few days after that, and I will post if I can everything about the install and how-to instructions if anybody wants me to.

Im excited (again!)

yeah post lot's of pictures and how-to when you finish the project.i want to see how it's done =)but one thing though, i looked inside my trunk today and i noticed that, the two metal piece that holds up the trunk in open position might get in the way of the box.i tried to custom install a 6x9's in the back and failed it, because that thing was hitting up against the speakers and the trunk wouldn't even close all the way.

So do you have the car now? If not I can let you measure my trunk if you want to get started on this before you have the car. I am just around the corner from you. Let me know at [email protected].

Also check the regional meet section, I am throwing a little get together and so far there are about 25 people coming but this thing has been whored out to all the local forums and I am sure that there will be more!

sweet!! I would love to be able to measure your trunk. Maybe sunday night or monday anytime would work out?

I'm picking this car up asap of course, the cashier's check for the remainder apart from the deposit i PayPal'd will be sent tomorrow morning, first thing.

Sadly, I wont be a local much longer! Ultimate Electronics is closing the KC area and a few other stores, ...going to try to size down and restructure, and become a profitable PRIVATE company instead of a NASDAQ fatality...

The downfall to this is that I will be relocating to VEGAS in about a month, to help the stores out there that need some expertise.

I am actually going the K-state tommorow to enroll and wont be back until Monday but you can measure it Monday night probably.

Didn't Ultimate Electronics just open up? What one do you work at? I know that they didn't pick the best location on 95th street because Circuit City and Best Buy are right on the same intersection. Also, why relocate, are you that high up in the company that you have too. I would just find a new job here. Vegas doesn't seem like it would be a fun place to live.

Email me your number and I will give you a call when I get back into town on Monday.

P.S. Come to the meet that I put together.

I should take ownership of the car monday...thinking of flying up and driving it back. Its about an 8 hour drive.. I can handle that.

The company has its reasons for closing some of its stores....our store is one of the most profitable and best working stores in the chain..but if they just left us here it would be hard to justify the way they deliver products, the services provided, the repair service we used to do...all that...on just one store for such a huge area. Ultimate is a good company at its core, and Vegas is where Ultimate served our now president and CEO Mark Wattles...the very same guy who started Hollywood Video from scratch. He bought out the company for the most part during our bankruptcy, and is trying to take the whole company off the stock exchange and into a privately owned corporation. It would give us 1000 times better control over what we should carry, how we can react to changing demands (example, we don't carry computers because the shareholder's committee (sp?!) decided we shouldn't...DUMB!!!), and our price and pay structure. The only way to resolve our huge debts without just flopping the company belly over was to size it down, and reshape it into a profitable, but smaller company. Thats the attempt being made right now. If anything, Best Buy (you gotta be kidding), and Circuit City (I worked there you MUST be kidding) were helping our cause, ...simply because they piss off so many of their customers who actually WANT service, which is what we excell at. Those who want to take a box of home theater can go to those other guys. I design them from the start. Thats the premise of Ultimate. Do you think those other guys spent 300 hours in training before even starting their jobs? Or how about an hour each day in the morning learning of the new product technolgy and what it can do? No of course not, they hire people at $8.50 an hour to "zone defense" an area of the store...any resemblance to a good answer from one of their employees is simply because that particular person took the time to learn a little about what they heck they are standing next to, or perhaps maybe they are enthusiasts of the thing they are tending...

We hired all the good ones away anyhow.

Sorry, that was a Dennis Miller - style rant, ...apologies! I just like the company I work for, and want to achieve the self set goal of managing my own store and being at the top of the MVP list before I set out on my own and build my own empire of shops...probably putting speaker-paint on walls and servicing flat panel speakers in the dashboard of the cockpit of the hovercar...in the year 2015...haha.

Oh, and VEGAS RULES! Just don't get caught up in the gamb|ing and live a little bit away from the strip...and you'll be happy as it gets. Its one of the fastest growing cities in the states...and NO snowstorms!

BTW Ultimate opened their doors on October of last year, approximately. We realized we might be screwed in this city when our grand opening brought in a very small crowd....completely the opposite of what most of the stores in the other regions saw. Sometimes there is a market for the "let them do it for you" sales, ...and sometimes there is not. If anything I blame SQUARELY the internet and its HUGE ring of mafia driven money laundering stores from NY and CA on our downfall, and potentially every major company who sells legitimate electronics to informed consumers.
