My 1995 240sx coupe is a piece of work. It has a hard time starting up, I don't know why it does, but it does. And it leaks oil pretty bad, looks like it might be coming from where the transmission and engine bolt up, but the rear main seal has been replaced when I replaced the clutch, and it also has a hard time getting up and going when needed, it's real groggy. and it has a slight tick in the engine. Can anyone out there help me by giving some advice as to fixing the problems?

1. add oil.2. do full tune up. cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter. it shouldnt cost more than 100 bucks.

would probably help alot of things.

Brent,

The ticking sound is most likely a timing chain guide. The top guide is not even needed and Nissan admits that it is not needed so you may want to remove it. I would just get a new timing chain kit while you're at it. Do it yourself or be prepared to dish out some major cash to get someone else to do it.

Your car is about 15 years old so gaskets are going to fail so you may want to protect the vitals and do a good engine cleaning and inspect periodically to see where your leak is.

How many miles are on your car? Is it a Maual or Automatic? Automatics are more sluggish than a Manual. When is the last time your car has had a good tune up? New NGK spark plugs and wires may help too. Check your air filter and replace if it is dirty. Go with something a little better than the Fram brand. I would also suggest using a synthetic oil like Mobil 1 5w-30 and a real Nissan oil filter.

We like to see photos of said car around here as well....... We just do.

Thank you sir for all the advice, you actually took the time to explain a lot to me and I do appreciate it. I plan on figuring out how to do all the work on my car, I do not want to spend the money one someone who's gonna fix it and then probably dog it out before I come get it. We were gonna take the valve off and check the timing chain and all of that, I will keep in mind that I can remove that one part if it will not cause any problems with it. I did almost a full tune up with a cap and ngk plugs along with an oil filter, I just need to get some wires. I just replaced the fuel filter tonight and no luck on it wanting to start up right, maybe it's the fuel lines? It's a five speed with a brand new stage 2 clutch in it so that's good. My clutch pedal has a lot of play for some reason, I just replaced the bushing in the pin tonight and it took out a lot, but not all of it. It has 180k on the odometer.

As for pictures, I will have them posted up soon! It doesn't look half bad with the at home paintjob me and my buddies did. :]

If you have any more advice please give me some and thank you again!

-Brent.

What kind of exhaust are you running? Has the stock catalytic converter ever been replaced? They can get a bit clogged which can choke out the potential power. I got a very noticeable power increase when I upgraded my exhaust and installed a new catalytic converter. I bought both from Greg here on Nico. His BRM exhaust is absolutely the best exhaust for these cars, IMO.

You may also want to check your compression.

BTW, you have the same name as my brother which is not a common name. Pretty c l. Good luck!

Haha shoot yeah! Thanks man. I'll look into that exhaust situation as soon as I can. Unfortunately my water pump and thermostat both broke so now I'm about to go out here and replace them both, fun stuff. xp

The water pump is in an awkward location so if you are changing a water pump then you might as well do the timing chain stuff at the same time as it will be much easier to get to since you'll already have it broken down.
