A couple of years ago my wife put a big dent in the corner of the plastic bumper on her sentra. I couldn't get to it to pop it out without removing the bumper. Since it was winter I decided it could wait until spring.

In the spring I removed the bumper cover and used a rubber mallet to pop it out but the plastic had formed a ring around the dent. I used a heat gun and was able to massage most of the ring out to the point where you had to be really close to the car to even notice it.

Things I would do differently if this ever happens again are.....

1. Don't wait. By waiting I allowed the plastic to deform to the new shape.

2. Apply the heat gun to the area before popping out the dent. I think I could have avoided some of the paint cracking issues which resulted when I pushed the dent out cold.

but never try to fix one in the cold. Get it in a garage with a heater by it. Plastic is a lot more pliable when warm. In some cases the dent might even pop out by itself.

Eh! This just happened about 90 minutes ago. (The wonderful Philly winter..ugh!) Long story short, I have a 09 Nissan Altima Coupe. Driving a two lane street...oncoming car quick swerved to avoid - I assume a pothole-
I quick jolted to the right clipping a small, maybe 6,8 inch soft, but chunky ice snow mound. Figured "Oh, I probably scratched the heck out of that." Get to my driveway, checked. I DID NOT expect this.

Not a great pic, raining and getting dark, but the bottom passenger bumper where the fog light used to be is pushed in. Fiberglass, plastic..Not sure if I can punch this out or what.
Have to wait until this next snow storm passes tomorrow, As for warm temps..it might reach above 35º by Thursday..I don't know. The paint in the cold weather - flaking fast is a big concern and probably unavoidable.

But wow, as an outsider and looking at this..no it doesn't look like I hit a tiny snow mound. This winter, just needs to go away!
