I dunno what happened, i was driving along, and i speed shifted into third and it didnt go in, and then i realized i lost all gears but 5th, and i had to use 5th to get home! I had just driven it about 10 miles from the other side of town on the freeway and every gear worked fine, then boom i cant put it into any gear but 5th, not even reverse, did i mess up my clutch, synchro, transmission or what? I need to get this fixed asap, because i have to have a ride to get to work and such. Im going to go in through the shifter right now and see what i can see. But there was no grinding or anything, just hit third and it didnt go in then i tried again still wouldnt, then thats when i figured i had only 5th gear... HELP PLZ!!!

do you drive it hard daily or any harsh shifts or anything like that! its unlikely for both of your synchro's to go out at the same time, and its not your clutch! kinna need to know more symptoms.

Just a slight guess. I had one of the springs break in my clutch.Didn't really think it coudl happen ona stock car but it did to me and only about 15k miles on it. The clutch would nto engage but the sprign would catch and allow me to get enough grip to move. All my low gears had too much torque so it just spun off.If I stayed in a high gear and babied it I was able to move but barely. Drove 25 miles this way straight to a shop where 18 miles of that was a freewya wher eI almost got rearended so many times. With your car turned off can you go in gear? Can you go in gear and it's not engaing? Or only allow you to go into 5th?

yeah i drive it hard somtimes, i was driving it hard when it happened, i dunno i think it jammed up because of my godlike speed shifting skills haha, cuz it was a fast shift, from first 2 second was really fast also. but it happened while i was driving it hard, i dont always drive like though usually im just driving slow shifiting slow never going above 3k rpms but like i said there was no griding or anything, i took off the shifter and am trying thru there just to see if i can see anything, but im probably going to have to take off the transmission. Luckily my next door neighbor has a KA engine and transmission sitting in his garage but swapping it out is going to be a *****, id rather overhaul whatevers wrong, unless its the transmission that got messed up then ill just swap it out. i dont feel like messing with all that... unless its not as hard as im thinking... We need to take apart the one in his garage just so i can see it for reference... but man im really bummed right now just want to try and fix this

No it wont go into gear no matter what, so i doubt its my clutch, it will only allow me to go into fifth, and i cant even get it to go over far enough left so i can even try and put it into first or second, and third and fourth wont go at all, just fifth, i can put it into fifth fine...

shut the engine off, and see if all the gears will go into gear, if they go into gear with engine shut off, but not when engine runing then its the CLUTCH.

no it wont go into gear no matter what, engine on, engine off, i called one of my friends and he says its probably my throwout bearing, since 5th gear is an overdrive gear it'll be the only one that works, either that my trannys gone...

For some reason I want to say that you broke the shift linkage. Even though I know it's internal and not adjustable in these transmission's. But it just SOUNDS like a shift linkage problem to me.

The gears are engaged by a sliding synchro hub, the hub is slid by a shift fork and the aftual fork part of it is held on to the rod by a roll pin. If it wouldn't go and you forced it you could have sheared that pin, but I would think you would have to use some force to do that. Can you take the car outa gear? or will it stall when you let the clutch out even when you move the shifter twords nutral?

Well my friend fixed it on accident about an hour ago, we were trying to force it all different directions to get it to loosen up and maybe go back to normal but we couldnt, so my other friend who doesnt know much about cars was just sitting it in with his palm on the shifter going in clockwise circles just to keep him busy while he was talking to us and he felt somthing give, and then he put it into all 5 gears and reverse... So its running perfect again but im still not sure if i could have chiped somthing and it could happen again. Im gonna lay off racing till i get my header and if it breaks ill just swap it out with the other transmission. Im going to check the transmission fluid tomorrow too because i think its leaking. There is a thin layer of tranmission and dirt buildup on the plate that holds the shifter in place and the rubber that goes over it has a whole in it, so im not sure if its leaking out the rubber or not...

My guess is that there's something wrong with the little plastic cup on the bottom of your shifter where it connects to the linkage. I had problems with it before and it did all kinds of strange stuff.
