Help! I have to get rid of my 1988 300zx and I'm ready to basically give it away rather than crush it - how best to do?

Car: 1988 Nissan 300 ZX (Z31) 2-seater with T-Tops

Post

Hi all,

I have a 1988 300zx z31 2-seater with automatic trans and t-tops, 168,000 mi. I have had the car for approximately 11 years. About 3 years ago it started acting up. It starts, but doesn't idle, and has been sitting for *ahem* a while. The city I live in has told me it has to go or be registered, or face a fine. I am not a mechanic in any way, and even though I wanted to restore it, now I need to get rid of it ASAP. I called a few cash for car places and they told me over the phone they'd basically give me the scrap metal price. That breaks my heart. I've spent so much money and time on the car, and had the transmission completely rebuilt just before I quit driving it, that I can't bear to do that. However, I would basically give the car away for not much more than a song to someone who could restore it or use the parts. Everything in the car is original except it now has a pioneer radio/cd/usb thing. What should I/do I do?

SO Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I am in Raleigh, NC. Thanks!!

Have you thought about donating it to Salvation Army or Goodwill? You'll get a receipt to verify the donation that you can use as a deduction on your taxes at the end of the year. Washington state it's $500 deduction limit, the donation site will let you know your states limit. The proceeds from the car will will help people in need & you won't have to scrape it. Plus get a tax break. Maybe donate it to a high school mechanics class for kids to learn on. Don't know if you tax break though. Good luck on your mission.

X2 on the donation...you don't get $$ but you do get a tax deduction.

Check with your local Z car club, sure someone in the club will take it off your hands.

Do you still have the car? Looking for a few parts or possibly a parts car?
