Test the wires for resistance.
You may have gotten water into the distributer when you washed the car. This would cause it to do just what you said it did. Get a blower of some sort, pull the plug wires, and blow down into the plug holes. See if you get some vapor coming up.
Replace the cap as well if it has a bunch of white deposits on the leads.
Pull your spark plugs ... see if they are wet w/ fuel. If they are test the fuel pressure regulator for correct pressure regulation and operation.
Verify all your vacuum lines are intact and plugged in.
It almost sounds like the EGR is stuck open, which would cause a bad misfire and a rich running condition. Try blocking off the EGR and see if the idle corrects itself.
To test the MAF, start engine and remove the connector. If the idle smooths out then you have a bad MAF (like me).
