working on my spare KA24DE right now in the garage and we're trying to take the head off... turns out that in order to take it off, you need the timing chains off, which requires you remove the lower timing cover which requires you to remove the main crank pulley. We got the big bolt out of the middle of it and have loosened all the lower timing cover bolts, but for some reason the pulley just wont come off.. anyone know how to do this??

QUICK! we're stuck right now and we wanted to get this done tonight!

The step is mentioned in that a few times IIRC.

I read through it again and it doesent say much about getting the thing off, only the bolt. Maybe run some WD in there for awhile and give it another pull.

lol well.... mock and make-fun-of away, cause we didnt do it.

..actually we decided to take the head off just by removing the cams and taking the upper chain off (instead of messing with that damn crank which will NOT come off, even with PB Blaster and a crowbar..), but turns out I dont have any sockets or wrenches big enough to fit those bolts! ...arruugh off to the hardware store it is!

two words. Pully Puller. You'll probably need one that hooks around the lip of the crank pully. Thread the crank bolt back in a few turns, mount the puller onto that and then latch the puller handles around the lip of the pulley. Should pop off with little effort.

27mm for that crank pulley bolt. All you puller guys are just NO fun, I used a crowbar ;) Yes, I am lazy enough I didn't want to drive to autozone...sad isn't it? I'm just messing with you fizzy, cant fault you for not having a socket!

I've had bad experiences with crowbars+engines. It usually = replacement parts...

I got lucky on my last bout with the crank pully. I tried the prybar method and knocked a small piece of the larger pully's lip off. I think it's insignificant enough that it hasn't thrown the balance off. I guess we'll see when I throw something in 10,000 miles though.
