Ok so i recently completed a 5 speed swap. The car sat for about six months and when I finally started it, there was no oil. I put oil in it and it ran good. Well yesterday, my mom went and had the safety inspection done while i was at school and it passed. When I got home I was messing with the car and I noticed that it has a knock coming from the very front of the motor. This scared me cuz I just got the damn thing running. Just looking for some guidance or a diagnosis. It is a 1990 ka24e. Please help oh and the knocking only starts at 3000 and up.

Could be rod bearings.

Most likely it's the the chain rattle. Cause a knock is there throughout the whole rpm range instead of just after 3000rpm...

I would check into the timing chaing guides first things first. If it is on the front of the motor that would be my guess. If you ran it with no oil though that is no bueno. Check the easy stuff first pull the valve cover see if your guides are still there or not. If so take those pos things off. I really need to pull mine on my s13 they sound like poo.

9 times out of 10 with the KAs its the timing chain. And if you hate the feeling of having something going wrong right after you fix it you might wanna find a newer car

This was my guess and wut I was hoping to hear from you guys. Thank you fellas NICO is the best. Dispite the fact that all of us on here are some real ***hole to the newbs, including me cuz I tend to come down on them pretty hard, NICO has some the best and most helpful guys on this here intronet. And I know our car have problems, But I was just worried about it being something so major such as a rod knock or something. Believe me, I'm prepared for any misfortune this little piggy can throw at me.

LOL if it ends up being something else I probably have a spare part for it I am in springfield, MO. I would really put my money on the guides though. The last zenki I pulled apart had them on it and it literally broke as I was pulling it off. You do not want that crap floating around in there.
