I went out today to change my oil and when I pull the latch, the hood didn't pop...Is there an easy way to get the hoods open on these cars or am I looking at a bodyshop and/or destroying the grille of the car to open it up? :(

Just be certain your hood hinges are well lubricated before attempting any openings.

Maybe the cable has broke near the release handle ??

That's not exactly helpful given the fact that the OP can't get the hood open to even access the hinges. :poke:

As Yodawill said, first check to see if the cable is disconnected ir broken under the dash. If all is good there, I'd suggest seeing if you can get at it from under the car if you remove the splash guard. I don't recall off the top of my head how far forward the splash guard goes, but I think it goes at least as far as the front radiator support, which is where you need to be looking.

Have someone pull up on the hood while you pull the hood release. Sometimes the hood won't pop up, but is actually being released when you pull the handle. Once you get it open, clean and lubricate the latch assembly and hinges.

I did basically what you said Heath, but it's still difficult getting it to pop.. so I THINK the cable may have become loose due to the heavy changes in temperature lately(you being in South Carolina probably know how up and down the weather has been the past few months). Thanks guys..... though I have though about doing away with the latch assembly all together and going with some Aerocatch flush mount pins, just so I don't have to worry about it again...

Well, opening a hood whose hinges are even just a little corroded can result in a bent hood. How helpful do you think a bent hood is? :tisk:

I'm thinking his point was that you have to have the hood open before you can lube the hinges?

I think Maxnix meant that regular maintenance should include greasing all frequently used hinges such as doors, sun roof, windows, trunk and hood. As shown in the service manual found with every new 1990-1996 Infiniti Q45.

Failure to follow the service and owners manual would bring disaster.

Greasing every moving part has been key to keeping any car going since they came about.
