The right hand side HID lamp on my 2000 Q45 anniversary edition is not working. I have checked the fuses and fusible links and they are all ok. I thought I would next change the left hand bulb which is working for the right hand side bulb to confirm that I do have a bulb problem and not something else.

However, I have ran into a stupid little problem which is that the fastener which holds the HID lamp cover in place is not anything I have seen before!

It seems to be either a Torx bolt or an Allen bolt with a protrusion in the center. The protrusion prevents me getting a tool to seat inside the head of the bolt. It is difficult to see because of its location.

Has anyone else removed one of these and if so, what did you use.

It's called a "security head" - not sure if it's torx or allen but that's the name for it. You can buy the appropraite head at Sears, maybe Harbor Freight? Does the FSM tell you what size to use?

Thanks for the quick reply. I will head down to Sears this afternoon to see what I can find. I don't have a FSM but I believe it is possible to download one if I remember. I will get searching

Thanks again

I got one from True Value Hardware this afternoon and I have swapped over the bulbs and yes one of them is non-functional. Looking at Infiniti Parts USA them seem to be about $170.

Anyone know of any other lower cost sources?

There are a lot of cheap Chinese bulbs that will either fry your wiring or not last.

Stick with OEM or Sylvania, but be aware the new one will not match your old worn one in light out put or color temperature.

Lots of bulbs on eBay. Not sure if they would fall in the "cheap Chinese" category Brian referenced, but I would at least look...

I'd say nearly 99% of the stuff on eBay is Chinese.
