Helo all,

just got me a 1999 qx4...and feelin pretty good now

i have had 2 other nissan, maxima, and a 300zx

but here is my issue

I need to install an aftermarket head unit radio, and a single channel amp, when i got the car, it didnt even have one, jus a big gapping hole, lol

-the harness was cut, so i have to do the ineitable of re-wiring the entire car
wiring the hole car is no big deal, I already did it before i realized that the speakers were powered by their own amps

-my decision is this,

i already have a pop out dvd/radio and it has 4 pre-amp outs

i want to tap/splice into the factory bose system(i just paid tuition so for now i cant go all new and fresh just yet)

--i am an electrical engineering student so i think i should be able to get this together with jus a lil bit of help

the way i see it is that i am going to go from the preamps and splice into the bose system before the amps
--i removed all the speakers from the car and they r now sitting in my room, including the tweeters

the problem i am really having is that i do not know what wire colors are for what, so that i would know which to splice into
and i was tryng to upgrade the tweeters by de soldering the 3.3uF caps with 4.7uF caps and now those r done(gotta get some new ones, probably w/o the crossover...i have plenty of caps at skool and ill have my prof. help me solder since i dotn take that class till september lol)

so, does anyone know how to tap into this system
i kno i have got to send my preamp signal to the 3 amps(2 seperate fronts, and 1 for the rears) but what colors are they on the harness that connects the amps(that is all i have access to since the harness by the HU was cut and is non existant)

and i know i am going to need to send a constant power and ignition power to the amps as well
--i need these color codes as well

and does anyone know how i should re connect the tweeters, i have never had tweeters in a car and am oblivious as to how to wire them up,
--should they just be wired + to + and _ to _ off the bose speaker,
--does the front amps have a crossover built in, so that i can wire directly off of that?
--should i and can i wire them in any way directly off of the new head unit, maybe off the front stereo outs(the aftermarket radio does have mofset as well/ internal amp, 200watts split evenly to 4 channels)

any help would be greatly appreciated, i will post pics of the entire installation while it is being completed

also i kno its best to just get new spkrs, but funds are kinda tite rite now, and summertime is here and i totally refuse to be a loser driving with no radio to the beach

oh yea, wen removing the amp for the rear, there was a relat that said amp assy, what is that, is that for the amp or something else

You could always splice in a new factory harness:

Or better yet:

The 1999 QX4 FSM is unavailable, at least the Electrical System (EL). So i found the 1999 Pathfinder instead. Should be identical.

You will find a section that contains all the info you need in that PDF (Bose Audio wiring diagram and schematic) should start around page 195. Its a free download, just need to register.

If you need any help reading the diagrams/schematics i can give you a hand.

a couple more things:

you will either need a line amplifier for the preamp on your deck, or use the speaker outputs. The factory Bose amps require a huge input signal. Even with a 6 volt preamp signal, they wont put out much volume.

also, for the best sound, you will want a high-pass signal going to the Bose amps.

hook up the factory tweets as they were from the factory (connected to the front amps).

to my knowledge some of the bose systems you cannot hook to an aftermarket head unit so i would do some research and make sure its even possible. there are other topics on this forum that address this issue, i would start there. you are more then likely going to compromise a lot of sound quality by trying to use the bose speakers with a not-bose deck. i would look for a used oem replacement until you can do a full system overhaul.

I thought there was an ohm issue with using an aftermarket head unit with the stock Bose speakers. I hate to say it but if I were you I would plan on doing the whole system. If you find out anything different let us know.

i really wanted to go with the stock system, personally i think bose is a great audio system, and im not lookin to enter any competitions, but research has told me 2 put it all in new...

and the real kicker was that 4 the life of me, i could not figure out the wiring harness for the rear amp...

i believe in the manual the rear amp harness is called out as B12 im trying to remember off the top of my head so i could be wrong, but none of the wires seemed to match up, i would post a pic on here but i dont kno how...

so i will be putting in new rear and front speakers, and an amp, probably end up goin with the JVC KW-XR610, i think its gonna b pretty nice in the car, even tho bestbuy says it wont fit, lol, it should keep a "stock look" to it

but now i have a question about the tweeters...
can i still use the bose front speaker amp, with the aftermarket radio and new aftermarket tweeters?

if not how do you connect the tweeters to the new stereo so they dont get blown

by the way, anyone know where i can get a volume control switch that can be installed on the steering wheel, even if i had to do it custom...

maybe even a fsm to match,

has anybody tried puttung the 02 and newer steering wheel on the 97-01 qx4s...is it possible?
